Reflective Analysis Activity
This task is due 21st August 2020 @ 5pm (Week 4) and upload it into Turnitin in the submission folder:
Word count: approximately 1500 words (+/-10%), Double spaced with headings, Cali
i 11 point font, no fewer than 10 references (APA 6th or 7th).
Weighting: 30%
The Assessment Task:
The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), more commonly known as Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), is a pervasive disease which has impacted all nationalities and cultures globally. The impact may be either through living in lock down for weeks, losing a job or business, an inability to travel, poor access to food and essential services, or contracting the disease itself. Cu
ently there are more than 8 million people who have contracted the disease with 5-6% of these people have died.
Something that has emerged is that no two countries are alike in terms of those contracting the disease and the number of people who have died. For example, Italy and South Africa have very similar population sizes, however, more than 35,000 Italians have died, while in South Africa less than 2,000 have lost their lives. This can also be seen within countries as well, such as the United States, where New York State has had more than 30,000 deaths, while other states, like Idaho, Utah and Hawaii, have had fewer than 200 deaths.
For this assessment task, you are to:
Explore the cu
ent COVID19 health issue that has impacted the Australian population from a political, cultural and national perspective.
As such, you are to include the following elements in your essay using headings:
· An introduction to the topic
· Discuss what political, social, geographical, and cultural factors have contributed to a lower number of deaths occu
ing in Australia compared to other countries?
· Discuss in terms of the determinants of health, why are a higher number Australian females in their 20s and 30s contracting COVID19, while more deaths are occu
ing among older men?
· Thinking about what you have discovered, provide a short reflection (no more than a third of the assessment task length) on the impact of the determinants of health on the health of individuals or communities, and how this may challenge some of your assumptions?
· A
ief, yet informative conclusion.
Given the ever evolving nature of the disease across the globe there may be limited peer reviewed literature to assist with the assessment task, therefore, you are encouraged to use Australian and International government reports, non-government organisation reports, and newspaper articles to build your assessment task. However, it is vital to understand that some reports and newspaper articles are good sources of information are not always peer reviewed and do come with limitations in terms of the ‘story’ or agenda they are attempting to sell.

The Social, Political and Healthcare Projections of Covid19: An Australian Perspective
Introduction
    Covid19, the pandemic out
eak which has changed the political, social and economical course of action at global scale, is possibly the most discussed topic of the cu
ent human civilization (Sullivan et al, 2020). There is a race happening right now among the nations to develop the vaccine of this virus so that the lives of many people can be saved—it has already taken up the precious lives of half a million of people across globe. There is a wide range of impacts which the nations have to suffer and Australia is one of them. The nature of virus is to be spread by infection and only social distancing and a grown immunity can save people from it as there is no known medication available for it so far. In Australian context, there are several social, political and economical dimensions under which, the low impacts of corona virus can be seen.
Social and Political Perspective
At first, it is significant to note here that in Australian context, the commonwealth structure of political governance has helped in the effective treatment and development of healthcare determinants to fight covid19 (Wilson et al, 2020). The out
eak of pandemic in China gradually spread and it took over Europe first; Italy, Spain and UK were the prime targets in the months of Fe
uary, March and April 2020 (Finch et al, 2020). The number of reported cases in these European regions reached to an alarming stage and there can be many factors which can be held responsible for this catastrophic outcome. One of the most prominent reason behind the rapid spread of virus in Europe was the ignorance of government about the virus; the preventive measures like lockdown and social distancing were not implemented at the right time to
eak the chain of virus (Wilson et al, 2020).
Contrary to the above, in Australia, the commonwealth government took over the work of fighting against the virus with the state governments and implemented the effective lockdown and social distancing messages given to the people also contributed in fighting against corona (Rang et al, 2020). The demographical attributes of Australia as a nation also helped in the process; compared to the rest of the world, Australia is having lower number of population and it stands at lower number than other nations in terms of ethnic distribution of population. In other words, Australian population is not that much dense, if it is compared to the nations like Italy and Spain (Wilson et al, 2020). In spite of the fact that the overall population of these regions in the world have similar number, the scale of spread in Australia remained low and death ratio remained nominal because of the strong and effective political governance between the commonwealth and the state government (Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities, 2020).
Additionally, some of the recently published studies (Wilson et al, 2020), project that the impacts of covid19 will not be short term; a great deal of people have already lost their jobs, leaving the social and economical system with an unwanted burden. In the coming two decades, the process of restructuring will be in full effect as the pandemic out
eak has hit the root of development at global level. For example, the international flights are closed due to the danger of spreading...
