The lower extremity arterial duplex ultrasound is the most widely accepted precise method to study arterial stenoses and occlusions [1].
Leg Position:
In order to perform the arterial duplex ultrasound, the leg position should be fixed for the analysis. The position of the leg should be in such a way that the patient Hip should be slightly rotated externally and the knee should be slightly flexed from this orientation such that the common femoral artery is clearly visible down through the superficial femoral. Next is the posterior approach where the popliteal is observed and the scan will be continued down the calf and evaluate the anterior tip for the analysis.
The steps being followed in the Lower extremity arterial duplex examination are:
1. After the position of the leg is fixed the groin is scanned by the probe of the transducer and the patient need to be lie supine on the table and relax. Followed by keeping the leg in the frog-legged position. More bending of the leg will result in difficulty finding the Popliteal artery.
