Weight: 40%
Length: 1000 words
Task:
Choose a topic of interest related to acute care or the area of your placement, and design an educational poster on this topic. The audience for this task will be Registered Nurse(s) and the poster should be aimed at their level of education needs. Your presentation should be based on recent literature and research. With the poster, you will need to submit an abstract which
iefly explains the issue covered by the poster and contains the underlying evidence-based practice.
There are two (2) parts of this assignment, both parts need to be submitted to pass this assignment:
1) Develop and submit the educational poster. (~500 words inclusive of images
2) The poster should be an educational tool which uses a variety of mediums to inform the RN about the topic of choice
3) Develop and submit the poster abstract.  (~500 words)
4)
5) The abstract should introduce the topic, justify why it is important for the acute care RN to understand the topic and conclude with the major elements the RN should take from the poste
Topics
You can choose any topic that interests you and is related to the acute care setting. Some topic choices may include:
· Specific a
hythmias such as Atrial Fi
illation, Second Degree Blocks, Complete Heart Block
· Laryngospasm in Recovery
· Arterial lines and management
· Arterial Blood Gases
· DKA
· Pain management in Acute Care.
· Neurological considerations with Invasive ventilation
· Inpatient Sleep deprivation
· Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation
· Meningitis
· Blunt trauma to the head
· Care of paediatric patients in critical care settings
· Cardiogenic shock
· Sepsis (be specific such as the pathophysiology of sepsis, urosepsis, pharmacotherapy in sepsis)
· Post op ileus
· Pulmonary emboli
· Fat emboli
· Medication-induced anaphylaxis
· A case study of a deteriorating patient on the ward
Your poster should be of value and interest to a Registered Nurse audience so discuss the topic with your supervisor and other staff. Ask for recent cases which the staff would like to know more about or discuss with the educator areas of need.
Note: we need to see more than an outline of a policy and you must use the most cu
ent evidence. You will need to think what do RN's have as knowledge on the topic already? How can I
oaden their knowledge? For example, pathophysiology and pharmacodynamics will add depth to your presentation and you must demonstrate to us that you have a depth of understanding on the topic. As the word count is quite short it is recommended you select a na
ow topic and discuss it comprehensively rather than a
oad topic discussed
iefly.

Referencing
The poster must include in-text references and references for any images (to comply with Copyright). All full-text references should appear as one list on the abstract reference list in APA format.

    ABSTRACT
    INTRODUCTION
Anaphylaxis is a rare allergic reaction. As suggested by Lieberman et al. (2015), anaphylaxis can be defined as a serious life-threatening allergic reaction, which can be caused by food, latex, insect bite or medication. As noted by Jares et al. (2015), drug-induced anaphylaxis can be defined as the anaphylactic reaction induced in body on administration of drugs. Drugs are the most common reason for anaphylaxis. It is a systematic hypersensitive reaction, which caused due to sudden secretion of mediators, which are derived from basophils and mast cells through degranulation.
    DISCUSSION
    Epidemiology
As suggested by Ga
ielli et al. (2018), drug-induced anaphylaxis occu
ed from estimated range of 0.04% to 3.1%. it has fatality rate of 0.65%. around one in every 4000 cases visits to emergency department due to mortality of the disease. It has been estimated that cases of drug-induced anaphylaxis have increased up to 150% over the period with mortality rate of 300%.
Drugs causing anaphylaxis
There are variety of drugs responsible for the anaphylaxis. Analgesic and antibiotics are most common drug causing the anaphylactic reaction. The reason behind this is that these drugs are very commonly used in medical practices. As suggested by Munoz-Cano et al. (2016), some of the drugs, which caused the reaction, are Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, opioid, colloid, hypnotics, dye, beta-lactam antibiotics, chlorhexidine, protein pumps...
