Weight: 40%
Length: 1000 words
Task:
Choose a topic of interest related to acute care or the area of your placement, and design an educational poster on this topic. The audience for this task will be Registered Nurse(s) and the poster should be aimed at their level of education needs. Your presentation should be based on recent literature and research. With the poster, you will need to submit an abstract which
iefly explains the issue covered by the poster and contains the underlying evidence-based practice.
There are two (2) parts of this assignment, both parts need to be submitted to pass this assignment:
1) Develop and submit the educational poster. (~500 words inclusive of images
2) The poster should be an educational tool which uses a variety of mediums to inform the RN about the topic of choice
3) Develop and submit the poster abstract.  (~500 words)
4)
5) The abstract should introduce the topic, justify why it is important for the acute care RN to understand the topic and conclude with the major elements the RN should take from the poste
Topics
You can choose any topic that interests you and is related to the acute care setting. Some topic choices may include:
· Specific a
hythmias such as Atrial Fi
illation, Second Degree Blocks, Complete Heart Block
· Laryngospasm in Recovery
· Arterial lines and management
· Arterial Blood Gases
· DKA
· Pain management in Acute Care.
· Neurological considerations with Invasive ventilation
· Inpatient Sleep deprivation
· Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation
· Meningitis
· Blunt trauma to the head
· Care of paediatric patients in critical care settings
· Cardiogenic shock
· Sepsis (be specific such as the pathophysiology of sepsis, urosepsis, pharmacotherapy in sepsis)
· Post op ileus
· Pulmonary emboli
· Fat emboli
· Medication-induced anaphylaxis
· A case study of a deteriorating patient on the ward
Your poster should be of value and interest to a Registered Nurse audience so discuss the topic with your supervisor and other staff. Ask for recent cases which the staff would like to know more about or discuss with the educator areas of need.
Note: we need to see more than an outline of a policy and you must use the most cu
ent evidence. You will need to think what do RN's have as knowledge on the topic already? How can I
oaden their knowledge? For example, pathophysiology and pharmacodynamics will add depth to your presentation and you must demonstrate to us that you have a depth of understanding on the topic. As the word count is quite short it is recommended you select a na
ow topic and discuss it comprehensively rather than a
oad topic discussed
iefly.

Referencing
The poster must include in-text references and references for any images (to comply with Copyright). All full-text references should appear as one list on the abstract reference list in APA format.

It is important for the Registered Nurses to have the idea about the importance of pain management among the patients with acute care requirement. In a health setting, the RN holds the foremost responsibility for the wellbeing of their patients (Pierik et al., 2016).

Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics
Swelling of the areas where pain is noted may be evident. This is due to the inflammation of the parts that sense pain. In this case, applying analgesics and pain reliever ointment may reduce the pain to some levels.
Sometimes, pain-controlling medicines may be administered to the patients by the doctors. It is the duty of the RN to ensure that the medicines are taken at the required time with the proper maintenance of diet (Pasero, Quinlan-Colwell, Rae, Broglio & Drew, 2016).
In many cases, the patients suffering from pain may engage in eating junk foods that may upset their stomach or lead to gastric. In these cases, chest pain may be evident. It is the duty of the nurse to ensure that such foods are not taken by the patients.
The medicines may pose a number of side effects on the patients that are affected with acute pain. In this case, it is important for the RN to ensure that their exact side effects are determined and ensured that the doctor is informed (Scholten et al., 2015). In the meantime, it is their duty to provide the primary level of care and support.

PAIN MANAGEMENT IN ACUTE CARE
The most important parameter is the learning of the lifesaving exercises that are required to be established within the nurse.
Patients suffering from pain may induce violent behavior. The state of mind should be clear and cool, in order to implement the services efficiently.
Generalized strategy to reduce all sorts of pain must be learnt by the RN. This is to assure that the patients may be provided with primary remedies while experiencing acute pain symptoms.
It is important for the RN to have the idea about the pharmacokinetics and the pharmacodynamics of the medicines that are administered to the patients.

Treatment
The RN needs to maintain the regular check of the remarks of the patients whether they sense any pain or not. This is to ensure that the sensations of pain if noted by the patient may be reported to the nurse without any discomfort. As suggested by Pretorius, Searle and Marshall (2015), they also need to reduce the pain through the physiotherapy massage to the patients that require them, if the causes of pain are not critical in nature. This may be supported with immediate primary pain...
