1) Post the image (artwork) you have chosen and provide the full image identification underneath the image. This includes the artist’s full name, title, date and medium (materials used) and size. The image must be clear and posted properly.
Who created this artwork? When and where did/does this artist work? Where is this artwork displayed and how is one intended to view it? (If the artwork isn’t cu
ently on view, then where and how was it originally displayed and intended to be viewed?) How does the location of display affect the viewing experience? 2 marks.
2) What is this artwork about? If there is a subject, tell me about it. If there isn’t a subject, tell me about the intentions of the artist and what they had aimed to communicate with this artwork? Provide some context for this artwork and tell me how this context may have influenced the artist’s choice of subject or point of view. (Remember, art doesn’t exist in a ‘bu
le’ – it is a product of the artist, time period, location and culture in which it was created.)
2 marks.
3) How was this artwork made? Contemporary artists often explore a plethora of image making techniques and processes. What technique/process did this artist use to complete this artwork? Is it a traditional method or new and innovative? Explain the process. 2 marks.
4) With what style or movement is this artwork associated? Define this style and tell me what exactly makes your chosen artwork exemplary of that style? How has the artist pushed the boundaries and challenged traditional notions of art? Find one other artist who works in the same style and tell me how and why their work is also exemplary of this style citing a specific image example (you don’t have to post this second image, just provide the artist’s name, title, date and medium within your answer). How are these two artists similar and different in their execution of this style? 2 marks.
5) Provide at least TWO appropriate weblinks and/or bibliographic sources used to inform the answers to the above questions. One source MUST be this week’s reading/lecture. If you do not use and list this week’s reading/lecture you will earn a ZERO for this question. Using more than two sources is HIGHLY encouraged. Sources must be relevant, and there must be evidence that these specific resources have been appropriately used throughout your entry. NO direct quotes should be used in this assignment. It should all be written in your own words, but you must also credit your sources consulted. I am not overly concerned about APA or MLA style. I just want in-text citations where needed and clear, detailed reference list please. IF you don’t not provide your sources and/or plagiarize, you will receive a zero grade for the entire assignment. 2 marks.
Grading:
For each question you will be marked accordingly:
2/2 Thoroughly answered questions with specific and appropriate reference to required course content and additional referenced sources. Clearly demonstrates a solid understanding of the content covered in the co
esponding module and that the prescribed work has been completed and understood.
1/2 Answers are provided, but need work in terms of quality, quantity and/or reference to specific course content and additional referenced sources. Perhaps demonstrating some but not a full understanding of the subject. Or simply lacking effort in terms of depth of answer and research. And/or gramma
writing issues may be standing in the way of clearly communicating your answers.
0/2 Answers are not adequate for this assignment; and/or no references have been made to specific course content or additional cited sources; and/or information provided is inco
ect, and/or your answer is incomplete and/or incomprehensible, and/or no demonstrated understanding of the co
esponding module’s content, etc. And/or gramma
writing issues may be standing in the way of clearly communicating your answers.
Penalties:
You will lose -5% for two or more spelling e
ors and -5% for two or more grammatical e
ors (e.g. improper use of capitals, punctuation, etc.) and -5% for any poor formatting (different sized fonts used, answers out of order, and/or the entry heading doesn’t match the image title, etc.). If your entry has to be resubmitted for ANY reason, you will automatically lose an additional -5%. In other words, carefully proof read and follow the instructions in order to avoid the loss of up to -20% off of the total grade!
Any following may earn you a ZERO grade:
-Your image and/or text do not ‘appear’ visible in the blog (attachments will not be opened nor marked).
-Your co
espondence with your online community was disrespectful, derogatory, sexist, racist or bullying in any way as determined by your professor and/or peers.
-You have not responded in full sentences and/or your entry is incomprehensible and/or incomplete.
-You have used point-form.
-You did not provided the URL address and/or full citation for the resources you consulted.

esponding module before this assessment was submitted.
-Your entry and/or image selection was not relevant to the specified subject of an artist from the Module 7 lecture or reading (Contemporary art, 1945-Present; any medium – not architecture).
-ANY of your written work submitted has been plagiarized (copied or mostly copied word for word from another source, or student) and defies the Seneca’s Academic Integrity standards.

-You did not submit the assignment by the required due date.
-Your entry is identical or ‘very similar’ to that of a peer in this class, or another class, or from an assignment you submitted in another course.
If you are at all unsure about Seneca’s Academic Integrity Policies regarding plagiarism, cheating, falsification, etc. it is your job to familiarize yourself at: https:
www.senecacollege.ca/about/policies/academic-integrity-policy.html
What happens if I fail?
Since you were offered several options throughout the course and this is now the last option and last week of classes, your options are now limited. Therefore, you will own this grade, and use the comments provided to improve on your future assessments in future courses. You may also wish to 1) Seek help from Seneca’s resources, such as the Learning Centre.

CUL 245 – An Introduction to Art History
Written Assignment – Module 7, Topic Option #6 – A Closer Look at Contemporary, 1945-Present!
Grading: 15%
Due Date: On or before Friday December 10th at 11:59PM.
Late Policy: Late assignments will be penalized -5% for each day it is late, for 5 consecutive days (including weekends and holidays) at which time you will receive a ‘0’ grade with no chance of resubmission. Late penalties start at 1-minute after the due date passes.
What happens if I do not complete this particular topic option?
If you haven’t completed ANY written assignment yet, then you have missed one assignment and you MUST submit this one! You have been offered many options, but you have now run out of time.
What will this assignment accomplish?
1) You will demonstrate learning acquired from each module by applying that information to your own written work and we will establish a virtual community by interacting and sharing with each other.
2) You will apply college-level writing and research skills to share your understanding course content. Your research will be conducted and submitted with Academic Integrity.
3) You will use appropriate technology to effectively deliver your ideas in a virtual environment.
4) You will engage with images and consider the many aspects that help us develop a deeper understanding of a specific photograph, and photographic images in general.
5) You will consider and reflect upon the influence of your own cu
ent viewing perspective, and the original context of historical photographs.
What will you do to start?
Choose a contemporary artist from the Module 7 lecture or reading to research further, co
esponding with the time period 1945 to present! Then choose an example of their artwork. (The artwork example doesn’t have to come from the Module 7 lecture or reading, but the artist does! Any painting, print, drawing, collage, sculpture, environmental art or installation will all be accepted. Architecture will not be accepted.) You want to make sure the artwork you choose is cu
ently housed in a major museum collection or is found in a popular art history textbook to ensure that you have access to quality information before you get started. If you cannot find information about your chosen topic, do not choose it! Consult the reading, lecture and videos for this module for more inspiration and resources!
How do you earn marks?
In order to earn 15%, you will answer several questions asked of you thoroughly, thoughtfully, in full sentences with proper grammar and spelling, etc. You will make specific reference to the content covered in the co
esponding module. You will also conduct proper college-level research with Academic Integrity. In addition, you will demonstrate proper use of the ‘blog’ by making the text and an image visible to all (without requiring the viewer to open any attachments).
How do I submit my assignment?
Click on the ‘Written Assignment Entries’ link on the side panel of the course page. Instructions as to ‘how to post a blog entry’ will be provided there. A video tutorial has also been provided under the weekly schedule. And an example entry (of the first option) has been provided in the blog. (Check out the first blog entry from September—that is mine!)
What happens if someone else chooses the same topic?
This shouldn’t be an issue. There are thousands of artworks to choose from! Once a subject has been posted make sure your answer is completely different OR choose a new topic! If two people choose the same topic and report ‘too similarly’, then the first person to post will be given the topic and the second person will have to choose a new one. The best way to approach this is to have a back-up plan and avoid the most common topics. I do not need to read 50 entries of Jackson Pollock’s No. 1, and neither do you as it won’t expand your learning experience, which is the point of this project.
How do we interact with each other?
There is a ‘comment’ link attached to each submission entry in the blog. You are encouraged to comment respectfully, and with interest to at least ONE other entry by a peer. You may respond to more than one
