Context: when did Morel publish this? What was happening in Europe or around the world when he wrote it?
Edward Morel’s book ‘The Black Man’s Burden” was published in the year 1920 and was a widely recognised book and an influence in the African history. This book is illustrates both political and polemical and its main purpose was to respond to the views of the book “The White Man’s Burden’ which was written by Rudyard Kipling. The “Black Man’s Burden’ points out the conquering of the non-white populations and illustrates the imperialistic and colonialism character of America. It also depicts the racism and oppression of American towards the African population.
When Morel wrote the poem then the Europeans and the whites of the society were going for conquests and constant fights in order to maintain cruel rule in others lands. These white people were establishing their culture, rule on the non-white people. As per Morel, the Europeans were colonizing other non-white people’s native lands and also exploiting them cruelly. During this period there were immeasurable damages and destruction to the people of Africa. On the other hand the US forces were bullying and oppressing the disenfranchised people who were no match to the US forces and were only defending themselves with indigenous weapons and artilleries. Also, the US leaders were trying to block the voice of the black people and were not concerned of their sufferings.
