Introduction
Anger is a complex and universally experiences emotion. Most often, it has been observed to have a significant impact on the mental, physical and behavioural health of the people’s lives. The consequence of anger due to childhood abuse or assaults in many cases have a dysfunctional manifestation that control's individuals' emotions. In the case study, Chelsea suffered from similar kind of anger management challenges. At the age of 13, she has been sexually abused by her step
other Jayden. The impact of abuse can be seen as a long-term effect on Chelsea’s life. In one hand she suffered from lack of confidence while she was in college. To her, what others talk and discuss about her affects her behaviour. Even though she studied graphic designing, somewhere, she lost her drive in her career and worked in administrative jobs. In spite of living with her partner Meg who cares for her, somewhere Chelsea still suffered from anxiety and stress-related to her assault in her past. The purpose of the counselling treatment is to help Chelsea in dealing with her anger issues and also provide Cognitive Behavioral therapy.
The rationale for the approaches
Cognitive Behavior Therapy
CBT is a kind of psychotherapeutic treatment which helped people in learning to identify and overcome destructive as well as a distu
ing thought pattern. These distu
ing thoughts have a negative impact on the patient leading to worsening of the emotional difficulties, anxiety, trauma and depression. As stated by Hvenegaard et al., (2020), in most of the cases, these spontaneous negative thought processes lead to a detrimental impact on the mood of the individual. The CBT is a kind of therapy that will allow the patient to identify these chains of thoughts that are negatively impacting their lives so that they can challenge as well as replace them with the more realistic and objective thought process. The therapists utilize various strategies in overcoming the negative train of thoughts which includes journaling, mental distractions, relaxation techniques and role-playing. CBT techniques have three different approaches. As opined by Davies et al. (2018), this includes the REBT method where the patients were trained to identify the i
ational beliefs and challenge them. Further, the technique helps in recognizing the change of the pattern of thoughts.
The second type is the cognitive therapy where distorted patterns of thinking are identified so that the related emotional responses can be controlled. The multimodal therapy involves sin the treatment of psychological issues with the interconnected modalities like imagery, biological considerations, sensations, cognition and interpersonal factors. Patients like Chelsea, who have been sexually abused when she was a child, experiences traumatic phases and requires trauma-sensitive interventions. These trauma-sensitive interventions lead to the establishment of CBT principles. The traumatic experiences which Chelsea had in her past made her anxious and stressed out because of which it impacted on her work. This therapy will act as an antidepressant and also allow Chelsea in identifying the reasons that are preventing her from facing her step
other and sister. Especially the therapy will prepare Chelsea once again to get back to her normal life.
Anger Management
When Chelsea, as a very tender age, faced the abuse, she did not experience the anger as she must have felt numb or helpless. The anger which cu
ently she is expressing and is unable to control have resurfaced much later. Although very little has been explored about the...
