There are many atmospheric procedures that can unfavorably affect our fragile world, but
people usually do not understand the severity of such damage which is being imposed to our
delicate atmosphere. Various human-induced ecological problems are common nowadays out of
which, one that would affect us more in near future is „deforestation‟. Deforestation can be
described as; “the purposeful clearance of forested land through cutting or burning”. Actually,
population growth and the rising insist for forest manufactured goods both can be called
esponsible for clearing of forests. That‟s why, in 1750 the area covered by cropland and
pastureland was approximately 6-7% of the global land whereas; by 1990 it increased up to 35-
39% of the universal land surface (Haines & Cassels, 2004).
Even researches reflect that, we are losing around 9 million hectare forests per year
ecause of expansion of agricultural land. A number of environmentalists are raising their voice
against it. Here, an important question can arise that why cutting of trees can make a difference?
Why we should be wo
ied if few plants and animals etc living beings depart this life? (Abeku et
al., 2003). In fact, it‟s not only about losing of some plants and animals, but deforestation also
makes us vulnerable for loss of our own quality of life. How? It can be understood via analysis
of critical climatic and environmental impacts of deforestation:
Disruption of local climate parameters
Deforestation might lead towards immediate undesirable consequences at local level.
Forests may perform a quite important role in the regulation of local climate as; these can
interact with hydrological cycle. In fact, trees may affect the reflectivity of a surface by
absorption of more heat than bare soil. Because of entrapment of heat, moisture might be
eleased into atmosphere where it may form clouds and can condense as rain. So, the loss of
vegetative cover can affect the rain in an unpleasant manner. According to NASA, forest-
clearing fire may also reduce rain fall as; it can discharge aerosols into the su
oundings. These
aerosols may increase the formation of clouds and can decrease rainfall (Haines & Cassels,
2004).
Further, owing to the loss of forest, flood and drought cycles cannot be moderated which
may lead towards overflowing and long term droughts. Moreover, local trees‟ removal may also
oost desiccation of neighboring forests via reduction of their moisture stocks and thus; can
extend outside the region (Abeku et al., 2003).
Soil erosion
Since; trees can anchor the soil with the assistance of their...
