Introduction
Maternal or pregnancy relate deaths are described as the death of the women during pregnancy or within 42 days of the end of a pregnancy. These deaths are regardless of the result, period or the place of pregnancy from any cause linked to or caused by the pregnancy or during its management, however, not unintended or incidental in nature. The pregnancy related deaths are approximately one death per 100,000 live births. The death ratio varies according to the ethnicity of the women, because it has been observed that the black women die more compared to the white women. In this report a detailed discussion is done for the reason behind the deaths related to pregnancy and the kind of racial discrimination is taking place in the healthcare sector.
Social Determinants
The healthcare disparities faced by the Hispanic group of people because of their social, economical, environmental and structural disparities. According to Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (2021) that the maternal mortality rate (MMR) has more than doubled in numbers from 7.2 deaths per 100,000 live births in 1897 to 16.7 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2016, and that too with the advancement in the medical sciences. In this report a discussion is done over the discrimination faced by a black woman, who had suffered severe complications during her pregnancy, and the possibilities of her death because of the complications in pregnancy is very much high. As a registered nurse, I have witnessed that her vital stats are not doing good and she it is clearly visible through her initial test reports that she is suffering from diabetes and hypertension. I have witnessed among the black community people that most of them suffer from chronic diseases, and particularly women suffer more and around 700 women die each year because of the pregnancy related complication (Co
ea-de-Araujo & Yoon, 2021). There are a number of social determinants for the reason behind such a grim situation, which are mentioned below:
Socioeconomic Factors: One of the major reasons behind the health inequality is because of the improper distribution of resources and power. This includes the commodities, facilities and the social attention across different dimensions of identity, which gives rise to the unequal social, economic and the environmental circumstances, which are the major social determinants of health. The African-Americans are at the poverty line of 20.8%, which is more than the doubling Non-Hispanic whites at 8.1% combining this with the pre-existing racial inequalities in the rates of health insurance coverage (Heck et al., 2021). The difference in the access to the healthcare is because of the accessibility of people who are at low income group and they have no access to the proper health...
