Software systems are not the only ones that have requirements; we have requirements in nearly all areas of our daily life, however, most of the time we do not consider them as “requirements”. We observe problems at their face value, make decisions arbitrarily based on that value and tend to ignore the simpler problems that lie within those problems that could account for easier, simpler and wiser solutions.
We see complex requirements in our lives, almost every day. For example, there are certain requirements you need to meet if you want to enter a good college or university; there are certain requirements if you want to marry a nice girl and of course, there are other requirements you need to meet to get a decent job. After studying Requirements Engineering I have realized just how many requirements I have had to deal with so far and how much easier it would have been to understand and accomplish them through Requirements Engineering.
My parents wanted me to get into a certain university and that university had a whole list of requirements. Like most other students, I was frustrated and struggled to meet those requirements. Eventually, I wasn’t and ended up disappointing my parents. Now, when I think of that experience, I believe through requirements engineering I can understand it better. What I actually needed to do was understand those requirements by breaking them into simpler phases. What exactly was the intended purpose of those requirements and why were students asked to meet them.
