Introduction
In the context of modern healthcare, the achievement of desired outcomes has emerged as one of the major challenges, given that the approach of care should be person centred. In fact, person centred care models are now widely acknowledged at global level in various healthcare contexts (Manley, 2017). As per the reading of the assigned chapter, out of four constructs of person centred care approach, developing care environment is the second construct.
Developing the Care Environment
Person centred care is guided by the basic principle of constructing the framework as per the needs and expectations of the patient through ensuring his or her active engagement with care option delivered. This demands for the designing and implementing of a range of care activities pertaining to satisfy patients at clinical as well as at psychological level (Wild et al., 2019). The following is the analysis of the development of care environment as major construct of the person centred care.
At first, it is significant to note here that development of care environment depends over the prognosis and initial assessment of the condition of the patient. This evaluation provides insightful perspectives about how to proceed with this development in a collaborative manner (Casper, Lee & McGilton, 2017). Care environment includes a wide range of activities in healthcare now days and collaboration or forming of the multidisciplinary teams is a part of it.
Care environment is manifested when this collaboration is successfully achieved, based on the assessment of the condition of the patient and what major prerequisites are addressed in this phase. In the process of care planning, this phase also ensures that there is an active participation of the patients and their families in the process of addressing the present health issue (Albers et al., 2018).
In the context of the above, McCormack and McCance (2016) recognised that development of care environment is a challenging task for the healthcare professionals. It involves the application of the multiple skills sets and team engagement. This construct also deems necessary that the staff coordination is achieved in the process of delivering care to the patients. Developing care environment is the process that these two scholars find aptly interlinked to the previous phase of prerequisites.
In that phase, the professional attributes of staff are recognised and it is assessed how they will be useful in the process of delivering care (Manley, 2017).The development of the multidisciplinary teams depends greatly over this phase through collaboration. Thus, when it comes to recognise the various skill sets, care environment construct emphasises truly the person centred approach because it helps in achieving the desirable outcomes through designing and implementing the holistic model of care.
