The additional documents are the attached Action/Reasoning chart. This chart will help you track your 'analytics pathway' as you work through the analysis. Additional instructions and guidelines are included in the document.

Finally, you should submit a 1-2 page (minimum, double-spaced) narrative of the data and your analysis.

You refer back to the readings and presentations in Week 6 and consider such questions such as Who is the audience? (or who might be the audience?) and What is the Message? First concentrate on the data and the results (sales data).

Then, how does the final visualization fare against some of the criteria we've discussed, such as Shaffer's 4 C's of data visualization?

It's ok to be critical if critique is warranted. This is, after all, a tutorial and not solely YOUR analysis.

In the end you should submit the following:

For use in both the Analytics Tutorial and Analytics Project Assignments
The steps involved in analyzing data can be complex, iterative and even move ‘backwards’ from time to time. New insights from Step 5 may make an analyst rethink Step 3, for example.
As you work through the Data Analytics Tutorial and the Data Analytics Project (also a tutorial), you should fill in the following chart. Note that the Get Started with Tableau tutorial also refers to ‘Steps’. You will probably at least use these steps to complete the table, but there might also be an opportunity to create additional steps.
Action refers to the type of analysis or the task that you decide to pursue (likely based on a previous step). Reasoning/Rationale is the WHY (this step?). It might be what you are hoping to find, or simply that you’re working on a hunch. Results/Observations are what results from that Step. Decision, may be a final business decision or a decision to move forward to another Step, another line of reasoning. While you may not have an entry in EVERY row under decision. If there is a potential for a decision based on results, whether a managerial decision or a decision that informs the next step or a future analysis, these insights should be included.
Think of this table as a way of mapping out your analytics pathway, both where you are going and where you’ve been. The data set considered is about music sales spread over different regions(continents) with different granularity like genre and each singer is associated with one or more genre type.
Sheets attached in Tableau Workbook contains different sheets which are analysed to understand the music sales across different region and their popularity according to the genre type.
SHEET 1 -
Here we try to answer the particular question- which genre sells the most to our customers in Europe and Asia.
For this we have quantity on Columns shelf and genre on rows shelf- which produces a Bar chart and shows the total quantity sold across different genre. Further to concentrate on a specific region add region to filter shelf to consider only the Asia and Europe.
CONCLUSION:
From the chart it is seen that Rock genre is considered the most popular in Asia and European region amongst different genre followed by Latin, Alternative & Punk.
Further, if we drill down and want to know which genre is the most popular in Asia and Europe respectively (if considered separately). For this we convert the region filter into a contextual filter. So what we see from the chart is that for European region the genre popularity is the same – Rock, Latin, Alternative & Punk. But for the Asian region the popularity is Rock, alternative & Punk, metal.
But overall the genre popularity is the same for both the regions.

Here we try to answer the particular question- which artists sell the most. And also to show if the artists produced tracks only on one genre, or if they have music across multiple genres
To answer the first part- drag quantity on Columns and Artist on the rows shelf which produces a Bar chart and shows the total quantity sold across different Artist. Further to concentrate on a specific region add region to filter shelf to consider only the Asia and Europe.
CONCLUSION:
From the chart it is seen that Iron maiden is considered the most popular in Asia and European region amongst different genre- followed by U2, Led Zeppelin.
Further, if we drill down and want to know which Artist is the most popular in Asia and Europe respectively (if considered separately). For this we convert the region filter into a contextual filter. So what we see from the chart is that for European region the artist popularity is the same – Iron Maiden, U2, Zeppelin. But for the Asian region the First is still the same i.e Iron maiden, but after that Deep purple and Gene Krupa.
This implies that Asian region has a different taste and needs a different strategy to boost the sales.
To answer the second part- add Genre to rows shelf and convert it to attribute- and wherever we are getting *, this implies that particular artist is associated with multiple Genre.
SHEET 3 -
Here we try to answer the particular question- to assess which regions in Europe and Asia sell the most records.
For this we have used the marks card shelf and drag sales, region and country to the relevant options. The visualization is produced with % of sales that are accounted by different regions and the co
esponding rectangle size.
CONCLUSION:
As we see Asian region has only one country i.e India, whereas European region has 17 countries. At first place this might look that data does not equally represent different regions and makes the comparison between the regions difficult. But if consider the population size of India, which can be equal to all those countries in my Europe region.
It is seen that France accounts the most sales followed by Germany and UK.

ent Scenario- Almost the 90% of the sale sis accounted European region, and around 7% is by Asia region. So it becomes imperative to explore the Asian region and particularly those where the English culture has a much more influence like- Sri Lanka and etc.
SHEET 4 -
It can be seen that around 50% of the sales is accounted by just three countries- USA and Canada, and Brazil. Other countries share a very small proportion in total sales.
Moreover, in the Europe region most of the sale is concentrated in the western Europe rather than covering the vast European region
So, we also need to explore the other regions of Europe that can have a huge potential to increase the sales besides exploring the new region like Africa and Asia.
SHEET 5 -
It is seen that both Rock and Alternative & Punk shares an upward trend over the years, while Heavy Metal is following the downward trend.
DASHBOARD:
The upper part shows the popularity in Europe and Asia for Genre and Artist respectively.
The lower portion shows the sales distribution of countries for Asia and European region. Firstly using this as a filter sheet we can further drill down the particular country.
Lastly, the last portion indicates the sales trend for Rock and Alternative & Punk, Heavy Metal.
CONCLUSION:
Though the business is scattered in different regions of the globe, but the huge portion comes from the Northern American region with a slight share of South America and Western Europe. Moreover, the customer preference is also different across the regions in terms of artist and genre type.
Therefore, in order to expand the business to other regions we have to take the various aspects e.g culture preference in terms of music, so that we can achieve the maximum sales by entering into the other regions.

How do our region sales compare to each other?

We are then asked to assess which regions in Europe and Asia sell the most records, but we quickly find that we aren't able to answer this information given the fields already defined in our data set.

Click on the dropdown icon beside the magnifying lens in the Dimensions window and select "Create Calculated Field".
Name your calculated field
Sales.

In the Formula, use the following. Note you can also double click the field names from the Fields pane.

Click OK when done. This new
Sales
field will show up under Measures, and will have an icon that starts with an equal (=) sign.

Global Filters / Quick Filters
You can make any of the local filters you created at the worksheet level visible at the dashboard level. While in the dashboard, click on that worksheet's dropdown menu and select "Quick Filters". Filters are most often optimally placed near the worksheet or worksheets they filter to make it as easy for your audience to understand as possible.
A quick filter in a dashboard can apply to one worksheet, specific worksheets, or all worksheets that use the same data source. To set this up, click on that quick filter's dropdown menu and choose "Apply to Worksheets". Choose which level you want this filter applied to.
Worksheet Title
You can enhance your dashboard is to change the title of each worksheet so it reflects the values selected in the global filter.
You can right click on the worksheet Title > Edit Title. You can set an appropriate title that incorporates the field used in the global filter, for example:
