First, state whether blood pressure in Table 2A would be a continuous variable or a discrete variable. Explain. Then supposing that the number of women in each of groups (non-users and users) were identified, would the number of women in each category be a continuous variable or a discrete variable? Explain.

Part 2: Use any free online histogram maker* to draw histograms for the blood pressures of the users and nonusers ages 35–44. Discuss one conclusion that can be made about blood pressure and pill use. *Here are some free resources:

Part 3: Based on what you’ve learned in this module about normal distributions, explain why a normal approximation of data would be helpful to view the data. For example, you could describe the steps that one would take to estimate the percentage of women with blood pressures in an age group.

1. First, state whether blood pressure in Table 2A would be a continuous variable or a
discrete variable. Explain. Then supposing that the number of women in each of
groups (non-users and users) were identified, would the number of women in each
category be a continuous variable or a discrete variable? Explain
Variables that can be measured are refe
ed to as continuous variables while variables that can be
counted are refe
ed as Discrete variables (Lipster, & Shiryaev, 2013). For example, Height and
Time can be measured and thus are continuous variables while number of people watching
movie is an example of discrete variable as people can be counted.
In this example, systolic blood pressure can take any values from under 90 to 160 and over.
Thus, blood pressure can be measured and not counted which implies that it is a continuous
variable. Also, continuous variable can take infinite number of values which means any value is
possible for such variables.
Number of women in each of the groups are discrete variables since they can be counted and not
measured. Moreover, the count of women who don’t use pill are 3494 while those which uses
pills are 1028. Also, such variable can take only a certain number of values.
