As a healthcare aspirant and professional, I learnt from this course that we should be on the lookout for child maltreatment as it can endanger a child's survival, mindset, safety, self-esteem, growth and development. By the virtue of this course I have learnt one very critical aspect of this subject, that child abuse is not always obvious and can present in any racial, cultural and economic background. In the class, we had performed the activity where we had to match the given scenario with the theories. It was an intriguing activity as I learnt about fundamental concepts and also how to distinguish one with the other. From this course I have realized that child abuse is common with a lifetime risk of about 25%. This make child abuse more likely to occur in child’s lifetime than even common diseases or lifestyle problems like asthma. There are many different types of child abuse that encompasses exposure to domestic violence, physical torture, sexual assault, neglect, emotional abuse.
