  5. Your word count starts at the Introduction (Abstract words are not included in the count) and continues through to the end of the Recommendations section.
  6. In your report make sure you address the following:
  • Discuss the importance of good interpersonal communication (e.g. why is it important for professionals to have the skills to communicate effectively with clients, families and significant others? What is the impact/outcome for clients, families and significant others if a professional cannot communicate effectively? What model of communication might be most effective for a discharge meeting? Make sure your essay is supported by evidence from the professional communication literature).
  • Identify behavioural contributions of individual members noting 'barriers to communication' evident in the video (e.g. what are barriers to communication? Which of the barriers to communication reported in the communication literature can you identify in the video as far as the client is concerned? Professionals? Organization? Make sure you justify your answer by referring to what is happening in the video. Do not forget to address each of the three areas in your essay).
  • Analyse the effectiveness of the inter-professional team and their collaboration skills (e.g. is the health team in the video working together effectively? Is the team in the video collaborating with one another? What does the literature say about effective inter-professional teamwork and collaboration? is the client put at risk because of poor collaborative communication?)
  • Analyse the situation presented in the video from the point of view of the client, professionals and professional organization (e.g. what do you think is happening in the video? Make sure you refer to the video when structuring your response. Do you think what is happening in the video in the long run is going to produce a positive outcome for the client, professionals and professional organisation? Why? Every reason you give must be supported by evidence from the communication literature).
  • Recommend how the outcome for the client in the video could be improved by rectifying any communication problems you find (e.g. this is where you need to tell us how the healthcare team in the video could improve their communication to improve the outcome for the client. What are the things the team in the video needs to pay more attention to in order for the client to not be placed at risk? What do you recommend this team does better? Make sure that any recommendation you make is supported by the evidence provided in the effective communication literature).

Introduction
Communication is refe
ed to as the process of transfe
ing knowledge or information from one source to another. This transfer of knowledge may take place via different modes. Communication could be simple and ve
al between two entities. This could be conducted via telephone, radio, computer, television as well as other means. Non-ve
al communication occurs in a spontaneous way and may encompass the body language, gestures as well as the posture of the communicating individual. Maps,
ochures, postures, logos encompass visual means of communication whereas books, documents, e-mails, letters as well as placards include written forms of communication. I
espective of the means, a successful communication. The case study being dealt with in this report, involves the professional communication set-up of a patient discharge meeting. The report attempts to look into the efficacy of the communication in terms of ideas exchanged, participation of involved individuals as well as the final outcome of the conversation.
Discussion Section
The importance of good interpersonal communication
The word ‘micro-skills’ is used to encompass certain proficiencies for communicating well with others. As stated by Tangney, Boone and Baumeister (2018), professionals ranging from social workers to health professionals are trained to develop communication micro-skills. This would help them gain necessary prowess in fields of counseling treatment as well as other intervention methods. The micro-skills also encompass interviewing proficiency. Among the various forms of communication, interpersonal communication is the most important form. According to Oetzel (2017), interpersonal communication involves the communicating entities sharing the same place, in other words, the communication is a face-to-face communication.
Interpersonal communication is of utmost significance in any communication set-up. As supported by Kourkouta and Papathanasiou (2014), good interpersonal communication skills of an individual guarantee the individual the position of a valuable team player. Whether in the personal or professional domain, sound ve
al and nonve
al skills, hearing, manipulating, negotiating, trouble-shooting, analyzing, decision-making and being authoritative are all skills that an individual must master to be able to interact smoothly in different set-ups. As noted by Gilligan et al. (2018), in case of medical professionals, communication micro-skills play a very important role to establish strong communication between the health professionals and the patients. They also underline good communication among the different health professionals, encompassing nurses, doctors and other professionals.
The communication among them is prerequisite for the betterment of the client as well. There are a number of communication micro-skills to be learned. According to Berger (2014), the most primitive of the skills is to have an attending behavior. An attending behavior on the side of the health professional helps to inculcate a sense of interest, support and empathy in the clients. Maintaining proper attending behavior helps to increase the client’s talk time and enhances the quality of healthcare interaction. During communication, maintaining eye contact is a means to express interest in the conversation as well as assertiveness. As mentioned by Cheruvelil et al. (2014), the volume, tone as well as frequency of the voice of the speaker also play a main role in capturing the listener’s attention.
When conversations are done in clear, formal and assertive tone, the seriousness and depth of the topic being discussed is more easily put across. As supported by Afifi (2015), besides these, the emotions of the speaker also get expressed via his tone of speech. Ve
al Tracking is also a central part of communication. As observed by Rogers (2015), the continuity and clarity of the communication is better maintained if the speaker is able to draw references from the previously held conversations. For instance, in the health sector, the professionals could discuss a patient by drawing references from the patient’s testimony. Finally, the body language also plays an important role in the conversation as it is a manifestation of the interest and attention being paid to the speaker. On the other hand, as argued by Gallois and Giles (2015), the speaker’s body language reflects confidence, faith as well as assertiveness in the statements delivered.
