a) Calculate the surface area of the icing on the cake.
State any assumptions you have made regarding the location of the icing.
The surface area needed for the cake =
= ( surface area of cylinder -area of base (circle)}+ {surface are of cuboid – area of base (rectangle)-
area of base (circle)}
= (2Prh-Pr2) + {2 (lw + wh + lh)- lb- Pr2}
Put the respective values from the diagram
= (2x 22/7 x 6 x 10) – (22/7 x 6 x 6) + { 2x [( 32 x 28 ) + ( 28 x 14) + (32 x 14)] – 28 x 32 - 22/7
x 6 x 6 }
= (377.14 – 113.14) + { 3472 – 896- 113.14}
= 2726.86 cm2
