There are two components to the assignment:
1)the life review interview
2)A written paper based on the interview and discussion (4-5 pages double spaced)
chooses an adult age 70 or older to interview for a life review.
Guidelines for the Written Paper: Thepaperwill consist of the following:
A)Introduction of the Older Adult:In the introduction, how and why they selected their interview. A brief biography of the older adult is not to exceed 1 page (one page maximum).
Example: C. R. is an 84-year-old white male living with his wife of 60 years in Arlington, TX. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin, the oldest of four children. During his childhood he lived on a farm, graduated high school and moved to Chicago, IL. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Chicago.... etc.
B)Analysis of the Life Review Interview:The analysis of the Life Review interview includes several items.
·Students will explain what a life review is and describe the goals and benefits of performing a life review.
·Research Erikson’s developmental stages. Identify the stage most associate with this period of life. In your write up include an explanation of the appropriate stage foryour senior.Include why your senior fits into this stage.
·Paper must be supported with APA citations from the literature
·Finally, based on the interview, use a 10 point scale to describe the degree of ego integrity reached by the older adult (0 = not at all, in despair; 10= fully reach ego integrity).A rationale for this assessment must include at least 2 specific examples from the interview ( i.e. what did the person say during the interview that led you to this conclusion).This part of the assignment must be from the student's assessment and not from the literature.
C) Reflection.The final component of the paper is your reflections. Discuss the following:
- This interview experience was/was not an enlightening experience. Why?
- Describe the most significant point of the interview to you.
- Describe a difficult/anguishing part of the interview, if any.
- In what way might you change your general approach to elders in your clinical practice after this experience, if any?
- Define "legacy" in your own terms.
- Discuss what you would like your legacy to be, what you would like to leave for others?
