The textbook is:Celestin, Roger, andDalMolin,Eliane,
France from 1851 to the Present: Universalism in Crisis(PalgraveMacmillan, NY, 2007)Sorry I can not provide the textbook at this time.
Part I:
In the previous module's discussion I asked which of those five wars was theworstcase of French "Universalism in Crisis". Now it's the opposite. Of the five authors studied in this module (Severine, Cesaire, Senghor, Maran, and Glissant), stake a claim for thebestcase of French "Universalism in Crisis". Who in your opinion has the biggest beef, or the strongest argument, against France, for whatever reasons?Divorce yourself from your own political or social ideology, if need be; see the world throughtheireyes, just for a moment!Cite specific examples from the text to support your choice.
Instructions for interaction and actions required:As always, post your argument with text-specific example
Part II(Main part): Due on 12/09
pick ANY topic you desire of French Culture and Civilization, but oneNOT COVERED ANYWHERE IN THIS CLASS(See the attachment that shows what it covered)! You may certainly compare (similarities) and contrast (differences) your topic with anything we have studied, but that should be kept to a minimum.
Having trouble deciding? Easy: what's your favorite thing to do? Favorite hobby? Favorite sport? Put the word, "French" in front of it, and there you go! Maybe some OTHER art movement NOT COVERED IN THIS COURSE?Also, do not be limited by the borders of the Hexagon; go "Francophone", if you want!
Remember, you need to beASSPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE. Do not e-mail me and say you'd like to do "French Sports"; you need to specify WHICH sport. Similarly, do not say "French Fashion"; specify what century or decades, or what fashion designer. My goal is to haveno two reports that share the same topic. Thus.......
Each of you MUST e-mail me your topic choice, with an alternate back-up choice, ASAP. First-come, first-serve!Prior approval from me is mandatory!!!
Also, I want these projects to be as "multimedia" as possible: you have a choice ofPowerPointslide show, uploadingpicsor videos, links to other websites, analysis of ayoutubevideo perhaps, etc.... or a combo of the above. You still need 7-8pages of written text, though. In all cases, COMPLETE bibliographic information MUST be given, or else the paper will NOT be accepted!
As for your bibliography: how many sources should you have? A minimum of THREE, but make those threeOTHER THAN YOUTUBE AND WIKIPEDIA.You may certainly useyoutubeandwikipedia, but ONLY AS A START. Actually, the other three sources do not ALL have to be websites; they can be print media (a book, a magazine, a journal, etc.).
Hint: please submityour topic choice, with an alternate back-up choice before you start doing this part.
Part III: write a short respons to the following postsI'll post it once you finish the part I.
