Introduction
Nursing education is understood as receiving formal learning and training in the field of nursing, this education imparts knowledge regarding duties and functions related to physical care of patients, helps in maintaining it and accelerating patient’s return to improved health outcomes. The importance of nursing education can be outlined in terms of educating people regarding health care and effective ways of managing and optimising health. Nurses are educated on how to plan, manage and administer different medicines, examining patient’s health care condition, discovering effective ways of improved health care, and, delivering best services to patients (Groome, 2013).
Different aspects of nursing education with respect to educational level, competitiveness, and competency of nursing education with reference to ANA Scope and Standards for Practice and Code of Ethics are discussed below:
Job Options based on Educational level
Nursing education opens different job options in professional world such as certified dialysis nurse, legal nurse consultant, nurse midwife, nurse anaesthetist, nurse case manager, nurse educator, nurse practitioner and nurse researcher. Nurse professionals can select pursuing career from these variety of exciting career opportunities and areas. Depending on one’s interest, background, educational qualifications, and desired level of practice, one can choose or pursue specific career field and opportunity. The job options in nursing field vary according to education level and expertise. For example, nurses pursued diploma course are entitled for midwife role, nurse practitioner, nurse educator, and legal nurse consultant.
While nurses pursue specialise course are entitled for job role and position of nurse researcher, chief nursing officer, critical care nurse, medical surgical nurse and other specialist roles (Groome, 2013).
IOM future of nursing recommendations for achieving higher levels of education
IOM Future of nursing recommendations are based on enabling nurses to continuously improve and widen their talent and competencies in light of diverse health care needs, changing patient population. In other words, IOM recommendations are intended to support efforts and measures for improving overall health status of US population through improving their contributions to the delivery of care. On reviewing recommendations of IOM report, it is found that it enabled nurses to practice to the full extent, widen their education and training level, achieving higher levels of education and training, using an improved education system that helps in achieving seamless academic progression (Gilbert, Sawyer and McNeill, 2014).
