Team PICOT question: How does triaging (I) patients in the Emergency Room (P) affect the care they receive (O) and their length of stay (T)?
Each student will need a total of two research articles related to the Team PICO(T) question. This assignment will help you identify “good” research articles from “not so good” research articles and to organize your literature in preparation for completing your written literature review.
Make sure you retrieved two research articles (one qualitative and one quantitative - credit will only be given if research articles are chosen) that relate to the Team PICO(T) question. Team members cannot use the same articles. When developing a question to drive the compilation of evidence for a specific practice situation, the five components that are used to focus the investigation are (P) Patient, (I) Intervention, (C) Comparison, (O) Outcome, and (T) Time. (15 points). Always identify these components of your PICO(T) question.
In order to complete this assignment, each student needs to know the similarities and differences between quantitative and qualitative research methods and purposes. If you do not know this information, you will need to read about it prior to writing this critique.
1. Select two articles (one qualitative and one quantitative) regarding the Team PICOT Provide a critique of both articles. **I highly suggest using the ru
ic provided as a guideline. (This discussion board assignment will help you with your critiques of a qualitative and quantitative articles. Just a hint). Remember, all assignments are completed in APA format. Using the ru
ic does not mean you put the information on the ru
ic; you need to write a paper in a word document.
2. Make sure to note the Team PICO(T) question in the discussion board posting and in the paper.
3. The feedback that you provide to two of your classmates’ papers should focus on the ru
ic for the critique of the articles to maximize your points. These critiques are due to the Drop Box prior to discussion board posting.
Submit as a Microsoft Word document - use a title page and reference page (formatted according to APA 7th edition).
Please use the discussion forum ru
ic to guide your responses.  Please respond to two students by 11:59 PM on Saturday of this week

· Was the sample size adequate? Was saturation achieved?
· Were the methods of gathering data appropriate? Were data gathered through two or more methods to achieve triangulation?
· Did the researcher ask the right questions or make the right observations?
· Do data collection and recording procedures appear appropriate?
· Were data collected in a manner that minimized bias? Were the people who collected data appropriately trained?
· Did the researchers use strategies to enhance the trustworthiness/integrity of the study, and were those strategies adequate?
· Do the researchers’ clinical, substantive, or methodologic qualifications and experience enhance confidence in the findings and their interpretation?

    Results (5 points)
Data analysis
Findings
Limitations
Summary assessment
    · Was the data analysis strategy compatible with the research tradition and with the nature and type of data gathered?
· Did the analysis yield an appropriate “product” (e.g., a theory, taxonomy, thematic pattern, etc.)?
· Did the analytic procedures suggest the possibility of biases?
· Were the findings effectively summarized, with good use of excerpts and supporting arguments?
· Do the themes adequately capture the meaning of the data? Does it appear that the researcher satisfactorily conceptualized the themes or patterns in the data?
· Did the analysis yield an insightful, provocative, authentic, and meaningful picture of the phenomenon under investigation?
· Identify the limitations (if there were any).
· Do the study findings appear to be trustworthy—do you have confidence in the truth value of the results?
· Does the study contribute any meaningful evidence that can be used in nursing practice or that is useful to the nursing discipline?

    APA format (2 points)
    · Margins, font, headings, citations, references, and any other item which is considered APA is done according to the APA Manual (7th ed.)
· Grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure co
ectly completed.
· If the same e
ors occur as seen in previous assignments, no points will be given for this section. That means a score of 0/2 will be awarded.

· Are the specific instruments adequately described and were they good choices, given the study purpose and study population?
· Does the report provide evidence that the data collection methods yielded data that were high on reliability and validity?
· If there was an intervention, is it adequately described, and was it properly implemented? Did most participants allocated to the intervention group actually receive it? Was there evidence of intervention fidelity?

QUANTITATIVE STUDY
IMPACT OF EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT PATIENT FLOW MODEL AND TRIAGE LEVEL ON PATIENT WAIT TIMES
JoAnn Lynn Featherstone
ABSTRACT:
Some hospital emergency departments (EDs) are negatively affected by extended patient wait times, resulting in reduced hospital profitability. Therefore, it is critical hospital leaders understand factors impacting ED average patient wait times.
RESEARCH PROBLEM AND PURPOSE OF STUDY:
Grounded in the business process improvement theoretical framework, the purpose of this causal comparative study was to examine the impact of an ED rapid evaluation unit (REU) patient flow model and emergency severity index (ESI) on average weekly patient wait times.
METHOD:
Research design and research tradition:
It was a prospective quantitative study.
Sample and setting:
This examination was conducted in the New York. The patients who attended the ED of the hospitals in the city were considered for the study.
Data collection procedures:
Data collection comprised a census of 26 archival data records pre and postimplementation of an ED REU patient flow model from a hospital ED in Upstate New York from April 18-October 18, 2015, and October 19, 2015- April 19, 2016....
