Introduction
Critical reflection of personal experience within social work practices could be considered as an essential tool in order to identify the gaps between knowledge and other contradictions. Further, self-reflection allows social workers in order to improvise themselves with respect to future opportunities within their practice (Kirkwood, Jennings, Laurier, Cree & Whyte, 2016).
This report focuses upon the critical reflection of my personal experience with the video role-play. Further, accessing that role-play efforts will be made in order to present the psychosocial assessment with respect to client’s as well as my perspective. Further, various other aspects and gaps will be discussed through social work theories along with the areas of improvements.
Personal Reactions to the Case Study
In the presented case study, client is a 12 year old student Lily, that has been refe
ed to me by the principle because they have been informed that the client have reflected certain indications of committing suicide. Client did not show any reluctance or resistant attitude towards the question that I asked regarding any aspect of her life. She was aware of the reasons behind her refe
al to me, which were her statements that she may want to kill herself or do not want to live any more.
Before starting any discussion, I specifically ensured her that the discussion or information will stay between her and me and no one else will be informed unless her views reflected that she can hurt herself or another individual. The client reflected that she did not feel like going to school anymore and do not want to talk to anyone. The major reason behind her statements of killing herself was her parent’s divorce. Moreover, she also mentioned that it was a very casual statement that she may have said however, her friends told this to the teacher and teacher presented this issue to the principle from where she was refe
ed to me.
She was not a very mature client and was only 12-year-old girl therefore; I had to be friendly with her. As before starting any discussion, I asked if she wanted water, biscuits or anything else to eat. This was a gesture so as to make her feel comfortable for this discussion (Mondada, 2018). She was facing troubles from her family because her parents were getting divorced and she did not have anyone close to share her thoughts.
She also mentioned that, her two siblings were also her responsibility when her mother had to leave for work. Further, her father was unavailable for her during any kind of discussion and according to her; she did not have any attachment with him. Lily mentioned that due to all this stress, she used to get hurt when her friends or anyone else made any comments regarding her family and these were the major reasons behind her statements of committing suicide.
Client’s Perspective Regarding the Meeting
Lily seemed to be very casual and informal while having the discussion. As I started the discussion, she mostly agreed with me upon most of the points and presented her feelings openly without any hesitation. She did not seem to be reluctant in answering any question and informed regarding her life incidents as well as her feelings and views about them. Client suggested that the statements were casually made because of all the pressure and she was aware that these statements were the major reasons behind her refe
al to me (Vourlekis, 2017).
From the beginning of discussion, I continuously mentioned that it must be tough for her to deal with what she was going through and I understand her feelings. I supported her views and this allowed a better flow of...
