This is where confusion lies…
Please follow the detailed marking criteria. The detailed marking criteria is there to provide you with information on what is expected. If your
word count is too much you need to curtail this. There is no such thing as +/- 10% anymore. One of the criteria for this assessment is staying
within the word count. Review the Power Point on writing for success to give an idea on how to format your examples.
Example 1:
General survey is conducted during the first interaction between a patient and the nurse. It provides an overall impression of a

• It does not really matter which marking criteria you chose to follow.
The total marks allocated for each section is still the same!
• If you choose to follow the general marking criteria – that is fine! You
need to ensure that you have enough details so that markers can give you
the marks.
• If you choose to follow the detailed marking criteria - this is even
etter as the information markers are expected to find are detailed here.
• With regards to examples, you need to be direct and succinct. You
cannot afford to ‘beat around the bush.’
• Part of this exercise is for you to develop your writing style and be
more direct with the information.
Lastly……
As with the rest of the content in
the course materials… yes, there
are an enormous amount of
information. The expectation is
for you to choose which one helps
your understanding of the concept
presented. If you feel, you do not
need them…. Skip them! If you
feel you need them… then go
ahead, view them and make notes.
01
It has also come to my attention
that some students want to skip
the Jarvis Videos during lab time
so that they can practice. The
eason for showing you the Jarvis
Videos during lab time is for
consistency. Yes, you could view it
in your own time – great. But
viewing it again in the lab gives
you another chance to consolidate
the information.
02
There is an expectation that you
are also practicing the skills
outside of the lab sessions.
03
Some students are so concerned
on what will be in the OSCE – all
the practical skills that we have
practiced so far in the labs
covering head to toe – all the
systems except Genito-urinary as
this will be examined separately

Introduction
Health assessment of a patient should include physical conditions, check-up of laboratory findings, clinical status, and pharmacotherapy. The nursing professionals whenever examining a patient should focus on these parameters i
espective of the patients' ages. For children, it is necessary to consult with their parents regarding the health issues as the children often forget to mention all of the points themselves or may mislead the nurses. Thus, consultation with parents is necessary. For elderly patients also the nursing professionals should discuss the cases with their relatives or guardians (Tondo et al., 2017). For the elderly population especially with psychiatric disorders like Alzheimer's disease, it is necessary to discuss with their guardians regarding the health issues.
Discussion
Health assessment
The major components of health assessment include physical conditions, check-up of laboratory findings, clinical status, and pharmacotherapy. The nursing professional should monitor all of these parameters of the patients. Concerning the physical conditions, the assessment program should include checking body temperature, blood pressure, respiratory rate, heart rate, and oxygen saturation. The physical examination also includes vigilance of any changes in body color, body eruptions,
uises, moles, and other things. The nurses should palpate the important body parts of the patients like chest for pulmonary patients, abdomen for gastroenterological complications, throat for the patients with thyroid cancer, and lower abdomen for hepatic disorders (Lua et al., 2018). The reports of all laboratory data should be checked like x-ray reports, computed tomography (CT) scan reports, ultrasonography (USG) reports, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reports, and others. The clinical status of the patients can be checked by observing mobility, the capability of food intake, type of food intake whether consuming enteral or parenteral diet, body symmetry, stature, posture, and proportionate body movement. The nursing professionals should be well aware of the pharmacotherapy to which the patient is supposed to undergo. the medications should be administered timely and routines (Fujita et al., 2019). Not a single dosage should be missed out and the nurses should document all of the timings.
Major components of health assessment
When a patient undergoes the care of a nursing professional the patient has all of the diagnoses and intervention with him/her already. Thus, it is the sole duty of the nursing profession to accurately ca
y on the management process along with proper care so that diagnoses transit to a better state rather than worsening. For this, the nursing professional should choose the major components of he
his assessment and...
