Aim: You are first asked to show that you can undertake a search of the academic literature by researching and then selecting three (3) articles of evidence based best practice on the topic of your choice i.e. subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. This assessment then requires you to demonstrate your critical assessment skills (using the steps/heading below) in order to evaluate the journal articles you have selected.

Sources: Three (3) peer reviewed articles are required. Your précis of each article will need to be succinct in relation to critically analysing each article you have chosen i.e. you have 300 words to discuss your article using the steps/headings shown below. Contact a learning skills advisor for assistance with your analysis (if required) or submit to Studiosity (see Moodle) for assistance this course requires you to identify your article in American Psychological Association [APA] referencing style. Each article should be no more than seven (7) years old and of specific relevance to the topic (above). Assessment 3-Annotated Bibliography

Topic: Importance of correct site selection for subcutaneous or intramuscular medical administration (only need to pick one type of parenteral injection)

Students are expected to complete an Annotated Bibliography made up ofthree (3) peer reviewed articlesrelated to the topic listed above and within their scope of practice. This assessment requires you to develop a critical assessment of the relevant literature surrounding the above topic (Importance of correct site selection for subcutaneous or intramuscular medical administration)and demonstrate academic skills in researching evidence based practice. Students are expected to apply their learning achieved related to annotated bibliographies in the Introduction modules (Weeks 1,2 &3).

For the chosen topic, students are required to critically analyse the current literature using the following five steps:

  • citation information,NB: ensure you include a DOI reference link for access to each peer reviewed journal article in your bibliography. If your paper does not have a DOI reference number, DO NOT use that paper
  • author’s viewpoint,
  • research findings ,
  • usefulness or limitations;
  • evaluative comment.

In all 3 Bibliography The annotation is both descriptive and evaluative - addressing all 5 steps; and provides an account of authors viewpoint, research findings, usefulness and/or limitations and how the work fits into your selected topic under discussion.

Introduction
Intramuscular injections are meant to deliver the medicated substance or drug directly into the muscle fascia. This is because muscle fascia has a rich blood supply and therefore allows the drug to be abso

Author’s viewpoint
Diabetes is a major health problem and the patient requires insulin injection because body cannot synthesise it. Insulin is given as an intramuscular injection ‘Forum for Injection Technique and Therapy: Expert Recommendations (FITTER)’ has set up some recommendations regarding the application of intramuscular injections. Co
ect technique has to be applied for the delivery of insulin in order to maintain an optimal control of diabetes. This review complimented and extended the injection recommendations published in 201.
Research findings
6 key recommendations that are based in the themes of anatomy, pathology, physiology, psychology and technology were identified. Further, it was suggested that, shorter needles are safe, effective and less painful. Avoiding intramuscular injections for long-term can cause problem because it hinders insulin absorption.
Usefulness or limitations
Injections and infusions should not be applied to the patients that possess some lesions. Rotation of injecting sites is necessary and helps in the prevention of lesions. In case where long-acting insulin is used, intramuscular injections should be avoided. Longer...
