Introduction
As the name suggests, Public trust denotes the faith that the public places in its officials. The public places this trust on its officials with a hope that the officials will act in a manner that will generally benefit the public. However, this is not always the case as certain unscrupulous public servants depart from their servant hood roles and embark on exploiting the public, which is their employer. The departure by the public officials from the expectations of the public constitutes crimes and offenses that are punishable by law. The aggrieved party can choose to institute legal proceedings against the official that has offended him.
Public Trust
Public trust as a concept borrows its origin from the genesis of democratic government and its decisive thought that within the public rests the true power that can influence and shape the future of a society. Therefore, the trust placed on the officials by the public should be held in high esteem. In this regard, the public servant is expected to act in a way that will confer maximum benefit to the people he serves (Wyman, 1911).
