Introduction
Human development across life span refers to the different aspects of growth regulated by the aging process. It refers to the physical, cognitive and psychosocial developments that are observed in individuals across the life span. Physical development of an individual revolves around growth and changes seen in the body,
ain and motor skills of the individual. Cognitive development refers to mental maturity, which include better learning and attentiveness, improved memory, language, thinking and reasoning capabilities as well as growth in terms of creativity. Psychosocial development is a term which is formed from the combination of psychological growth and social skills including factors such as emotions, personality and social relationships. According to Grossmann (2018), there are eight stages of development, namely, prenatal, infancy and toddlerhood, early childhood, middle childhood, adolescence, early adulthood, middle adulthood and late adulthood.
Name and Overview of the Period Chosen
I would like to discuss and analyse my childhood; the range of age is 2 years to 7 or 8 years. It can be taken as a combination of early and middle childhood. Early childhood is also known as preschool years. It immediately follows the period of infancy and toddlerhood and precedes the period of formal schooling. According to Black et al. (2017), this particular period of childhood is usually highly dynamic in nature. It is during these years that children show remarkable growth in terms of
ain development. During early childhood, as observed by Britto et al. (2017), the young individuals are highly influenced by the various happenings in the environment along with the people su
ounding the child. According to Daelmans et al. (2017), in these growing years, the child requires a comprehensive care and nurturing that aims at developing the physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs thereby supporting them to build a strong foundation for lifelong health and learning. Towards the end of early childhood, around the age of 6 years, children begin their school life.
They begin to learn languages, gain a sense of selfhood as well as the idea of greater independence and learn the workings of the real physical world. They learn the act of comparing one’s own self to another’s in terms of academic achievements, sports prizes and so on. According to Gilmore et al. (2018), by the age of 7 years the
ain reaches its adult size, however, it continues to develop. Motor skills begin to get refined during this period of the life span. Children as they are exposed to the real external world, learn to develop social relationships beyond their families through the interactions with their peers, teachers and friends.
According to Björkenstam et al. (2017), it is important to understand the role and overall importance of childhood in the growth, maturity and wellbeing of a child’s future years. If
