Speech 3 Outline
Assignment
Create a full-sentence outline for Speech 3, the Informative Speech. Map out the information you will use for
each of the seven steps for organizing a speech (see pages 19-20 of our textbook), which should be much
easier for this speech—especially for steps such as “Preview the Body” and “Summarize Main Points.”
Remember the book’s advice: You should probably limit yourself to 3-5 main points. You should use specific
enough detail that the outline would work for only one speech--yours!
For speech three you need to use a minimum of three outside sources from the li
ary databases (you can
use more, of course) and two visual aids. Your outline should show where you plan to use each outside
source and visual aid. You should explain how it will be used and why you are using it. That means you
should include references to specific sources.
Please create a formal outline. Please write in full sentences. If you want to see a model, look at the example
on pages XXXXXXXXXXof our textbook.
Criteria for Evaluation
-You use an outline form
-Every one of the seven steps for organizing your speech is accounted for (page 19)
-You provide specific details for how each of the seven steps will be covered in your speech
-Each body paragraph has a main point, which you establish with a topic sentence
-It’s clear how each main point supports your thesis
-You explain in sufficient detail how you will develop each body paragraph
-You make clear and recognizable transitions between sections
-You indicate where you are most likely to use the required research (three sources from the li
ary
databases minimum)—and mention specific sources
-You indicate where you are most likely to use the two visual aids—and are specific about what the visual
aids will be
-You write in full sentences
-You use MLA formatting and style guidelines
