Skill(s) Being Assessed:Problem Solving

Criteria for Success:In this assignment, you will:
  • Synthesize credible information from all sources to construct a timeline that includes all key events arranged in a highly logical order.
  • Include information in the timeline that is objective and relevant to a workplace incident.
  • Present information clearly and professionally.

What to submit/deliverables:A timeline of events based on the sources provided in the assignment.

What is the value of doing this assignment? You are bombarded with information every day—from news and social media, from family and friends, from instructors and peers at school, and from colleagues at work. This information is often unclear, misleading, or based on partial knowledge. You need to piece together incomplete information, or information from different sources (some credible, some less so, and some that represent different perspectives), in order to solve problems and make sense of evidence.

In this assignment, you have the opportunity to practice your problem solving skill working through information (some more credible, some less) in order to piece together the events of an unfortunate workplace incident. This will give you the opportunity to practice your problem solving skill by identifying and presenting clear and accurate information as the first step in the problem solving process. You will use different sources of information as clues you must piece together, identify important questions to follow up on, and uncover connections that will allow you to reach evidence-backed conclusions. Doing so will not only help you be successful in this course. Learning to use credible information will also help you solve problems in your personal and professional life.

This assignment will lay the foundation for your second assignment where you will make (or decide against) disciplinary recommendations based on your findings.

Your goal for this assignment is to:Practice your problem solving skill by analyzing different sources of information in order to create a timeline of events to help you piece together the details of a problem (a workplace event).

Scenario:A valuable piece of technology testing equipment went missing from your company after arriving in a shipment. The same day, a seemingly identical item was posted for sale on an internet auction site. Three employees were present within the 90-minute window that the item went missing.

You are the director of Viewpoint, the company’s employee relations department. Being the Viewpoint director, a role in Human Resources, means that you are an advocate for all employees and that your primary responsibility is to relate employee concerns to leadership and provide guidance on situations involving employee discipline (as requested). The inventory manager has asked you to assist in this loss prevention case by constructing a timeline of events as the first step.

Steps to complete:In Chapter 3 of the webtext, complete and then download your assignment. You will then upload your assignment to the Week 3 Assignment link in Blackboard using the following steps:

STEP 1:Review the transcripts of all three employees and the security camera footage.Do not use any other sources. These sources can be found in Blackboard on the Submit page in Week 3.

As you review the sources, consider the following:

  • What information did you learn from each source?
  • What do the sources agree on?
  • What events definitely happened, and which likely happened?
  • What conflicting information do you notice?

STEP 2:Determine the most relevant information needed to construct the best possible timeline based on the sources provided. What information you choose to include (and exclude) will be an important part of your timeline clarity and accuracy.

STEP 3:Create a timeline based on the information you’ve determined most relevant. As you create your timeline, consider the following:

      • Is the timeline easy to understand? Does it read clearly and in a logical order?
      • Is the language and presentation appropriate for a professional audience? Consider grammar, choice of wording, and visual effectiveness.
Answer these questions :-What events described in this transcript are relevant? Include the time if it is possible to tell. Do you notice any other important details like contradictions or conflicting information?-What events described in this transcript are relevant? Include the time indicated.-Which events corroborate information from the employee interviews? Do you notice any information that conflicts with details from the employee interviews?-When you are doing the timeline include the following:A time or approximate time (based on information from the sources provided) A brief description of the relevant event or action A brief explanation of how you verified the event (Was it confirmed by the video camera? Was it confirmed by more than one of the individual transcripts?)

Scope missing assignment
Introduction: There was a new scope purchased very costly but gone missing. The concerned people were three staff Michael, Rachelle, and Sarah.
The inte
ogations done revealed the following:
Michael: The point that Michael did not know about the theft and asked why the inte
ogation was taking place stands in favour of him that he might not be the culprit. Subsequently his conversation reveals controversial things such as first he says he only wanted one such machine but next he says it was too expensive so not possible to have at workstation. Also secondly he answered very vaguely about cctv camera which shows he is in confused mind. Thirdly, he says he did not know anything when asked about his
eak/lunch timings. These two are against him. But about problems he faced he says that Rachelle is not cooperative and complaining type. But for
eak fast he was absconding for a unusual 45 minutes time which grows suspicious. If he really stole he would not magnify these petty issues. So there is 30% chance that he is culprit while 70% shows not culprit.
Rachelle: (The acting supervisor)
Rachelle is concerned about the issue with Michael on that day. Hence it seems he could not have stolen since if he had done, he would be anxious about this and would not magnify these petty things. He did not know about the theft but complains that Michael took a long
eak that day. Also Rachelle revealed that Michael was away from the camera for a long time. While Sarah suspected he went out, Michael was inside only watching Television. He seems to do funny things such as throwing ball, and distu
ing Rachelle in unusual ways, etc. But about Sarah, the front desk employee, she did not comment anything. The expensive thing of scope theft Rachelle reacted that she did not know about that but of firm opinion that Michael only would have stolen and sold it. Since keys were just hanging left by store keeper it was possible for Michael to steal it was Rachelle’s claim.
The argument shows Rachelle has personal enmity with Michael.
She seems to be innocent because she does not know about the threat. But since putting allegations on Michael, it seems she would have done and shifted blame on Michael. Thus 50% chance that she is culprit. Rachelle was not aware about Sarah’s absence for 17 minutes from the purview of camera.
Sarah: (Front desk staff part time only Tuesdays and Thursdays):
Sarah confirmed she received the scope...
