Introduction
The Ottawa Charter is based on five main principles, including establishing a healthy public policy, creating a supportive environment, strengthening community action, developing personal skills, or adjusting the direction of health services. By definition, health promotion is "a process that enables people to better control and improves their health. Unless their physical and emotional needs are met, and individuals can change their environment or learn how to adapt in their own environment, they cannot achieve a complete state of physical, psychological, and social well-being. Although the Charter is nearly thirty years old, these five principles are still very relevant to health promotion today.
