Introduction 
In U.S., nursing is one of the largest numbers of professional and currently there are 
around 3 million nurses in the country who are registered for this professional. Generally 
speaking, there have been regular reforms in the laws of health care with time in order to manage 
the challenges associated with prime concerns of healthcare sector such as long term care 
facilities, nursing quality, primary care facilities which makes use of coordination care, etc.  
There was issue of a special report named as “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, 
Advancing Health” during the month of November 2010 by the Institute of Medicine. It 
represented a report about the functionality reforms and changes that are required by the nursing 
field through transformation processes. In short, it focussed over expansion of nursing profession 
in the healthcare management so that hurdles and obstacles on the path of nurses can be removed 
in order to create repositioning of nurses and expansion of its scope in advance healthcare 
management systems.
Impact of the IOM report on nursing education 
Education of nurses through various legislative changes has become an important issue to 
upgrade the quality of services that should be provided by the nurses. Due to the introduction of 
legislative reforms, some of the states have introduced new programmes so that nursing 
profession can undergo seamless progression in academic field. For this, there have been reforms
