CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
Dementia refers to a group of
ain disorders (including memory loss, confusion, mood changes, and difficulty in routine tasks) that initiate loss of function of
ain (Alzheimer research UK, 2019). These disorders are mostly severe and progressive. The Alzheimer’s disease, one of the most readily found form of Dementia in UK affects nearly 62% of the people. The vascular dementia influences 17% of the people, while a mixed form of different dementia influences 10% people. Out of total 850,000 people having Dementia, 40,000 people are under 65 years and the statistics is certain to elevate up to 1 million in next 6 years. Dementia imposes additional 2/3 burden of the cost of treatment over the family of the person. As a terminal condition, dementia is a leading cause of disability in later life. Dementia is an old age disease; it is mostly progressive in old people. Nowadays, young people also show the signs of dementia in them. Since dementia results in decline in the mental abilities, people suffering from this disease failed to make any kind of decision. They mostly suffered from depression and anxiety. With progression of the time, there is progression in dying of
ain cells. In older age, dead
ain cells find it difficult to replenish and with further progression of age, they failed to regrow. The biggest issue with the disease is that there is no proper treatment for the disease. Its progression can only be slower down with therapy and treatment.
1.2 Research Aim
The research is aimed to explore and analyze the evidences for ongoing and existing interventions for the welfare of persons living with Dementia in UK.
1.3 Research Objective
To achieve this aim, the researcher develops following objectives such as:
· To investigate the symptoms, causes and diagnosis of dementia; and to identify the interventions to provide quality care to best suit the requirements of people.
· To assess the patient centered care available for the well being of the people suffering from Dementia in UK.
· To investigate issues like inco
ect interpretation of prescriptions, poor monitoring and incidents of harm or abuse to the Dementia parties.
· To identify the role of government agencies in improving the condition of the people suffering from the disease.
· To identify the facilities available to the people suffering from dementia, and type of financial aid given to these people.
· To investigate the non-governmental agencies which play crucial role in supporting patients suffering from dementia and their families.
· To identify the reason for the increase in the cases of dementia in United Kingdom.
1.4 Rationale
The research focuses over the issue to analyze the causes, symptoms, diagnosis and understanding of Dementia to deliver effective dementia care to suit the requirements of the patients while ensuring if all the necessary interventions are implemented. The study also ensures that the services are providing safe care, effective response to the needs of the people, regular monitoring, effective communication, good recording and manual handling procedures. The study also investigates the issues like evident gaps in the administration of medications for dementia patients, and the incidents reporting the abuse or harm of dementia service users to analyze the utility of response system. Leaving a great influence on the lives of affected people, the topic is of immense interest for the researchers.
1.5 Background
Worldwide, there are about 46.8 million dementia persons and the number gets doubled in every 20 years (Alzheimer Research UK, 2018). Every year another set of 7.7 million people become the victim of Dementia worldwide. Every day about 600 people develop Dementia in UK. The number of female patients is greater than the male patients. The disease has no cure. Moreover, the research for Dementia is extremely underfunded in UK spending just £90 on dementia research for each person. Every patient of Dementia imposes an annual cost of £ 30,000 on the UK economy (Alzheimer’s Society, 2019). The people who have high BP, diabetes, cholesterol, or depression are more likely to incept Dementia than the others. Having no medicines to cure the condition, the patient’s condition generally continues to worsen overtime.
1.6 Research Overview
Until a cure is found for Dementia, the condition will have several financial and human implications. The researchers conducted literature review of cases of Alzheimer’s disease and other types of Dementia in UK from 2013 to 2019 to analyze the choice of health policy for quickly aging groups in UK, to analyze the time direction and to amend the calculations of concerns of illness. This study involves literature review to explore a wide range of resources from several disciplines, emphasizing on the relationship between dementia and normal ageing.
Most of the people suffering from Dementia are left to manage their illness without any effective social care services and access to healthcare facilities to assist them. This research investigates the underlying causes and symptoms of Dementia to provide a qualitative care to the people as per their requirements. The study investigates the care services for their effectiveness and consistent monitoring to provide safe care, while reducing the unnecessary costs, and developing maximum respect and dignity for the dementia patients. The research explores authentic peer reviewed literature to improve the efficiency of health care for Dementia persons in UK, assist the care providers in delivering best care to the service users, and develop good governance.
The research identifies the available resources for improving the qualitative care of dementia service users.
CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW (BREAK DOWN MORE ON ETHICS WITH DEFINATION, REFERENCE AND CITATION ALONG.)
RESEARCH QUESTION
· when and how did you find out that you are suffering from dementia?
The first participant said that she found out very early about its progressive disease. She was undergoing for her regular check-up where she told the doctor about how she forgets her way back home once. She was tested for the disease as a precautionary method. Another participant added she was tested for the disease when she had one of the episodes where she completely forgets about her son and get panicked. It was the first time. Third participant added; she was tested for the disease when getting tested for other disease.
· Did you face any episode of emotional episode? If yes, how often?
First participant told that she faced the emotional outburst very rarely due to her medication and meditation. Another agreed that medication help her to control outburst. Although she faced the outburst often. Third participant who was youngest of all said that she did not have any emotional outburst yet.
I had selected five random dementia patients for the interview who gave me their consent for the conduction of the interview. I was able to conduct the interview of only three, rest to failed to participate due to their personal reasons
STATISTIC, AGE OR ANY GENETICS ISSUES AND HOW THEY MANAGE IT)
2.1 Introduction
The literature Review is an extensive overview of the existing literature content on the relevant topic, important for the research question. This research focuses on peer reviewed journals for data collection while also includes interactive responses from the medical experts to analyze the existing interventions in the mental healthcare facilities of UK for the welfare and care of people living with Dementia. The study evaluates the findings of the review with the policies and legislative frameworks run by the government for the welfare of people living with Dementia in UK.
As suggested by Livingston et al. (2017), till date there is no proper cure for the disease. The use of medication and therapies allow to reduce the progressive symptoms of the disease. It has been found out that there is non-medication treatment like counselling are best way to improve the condition of the patients. behavioral counselling, and social cognition therapy are effective.
CHAPTER 3: METHODOLOGY
3.0 Introduction
You can refer to this as your literature search
The research involves extensive integrative review of literature to assess, identify, and appraise the articles involving the wide range of interventions for wellbeing of people living with Dementia. The search strategies involved exploring databases like Medline, EMbase, CINAHL, and Cochrane in addition to free text searches. Existing literature was navigated for assessing the evidence based psychosocial interventions on the basis of their effectiveness to assist the people living with dementia. The...
