Introduction
There may be several reasons for the college students for the intake of alcohol. Student’s desire
to maintain themselves in the university campus may pressurize them towards drinking habits.
One of the major reasons may be no parental control that makes it easier for the students to
follow wrong habits of alcohol consumption. But the students do not realize that there drinking
habits lead to poor and bad performances in the university.
1.1.Aim of the Research
The major aim of this learning is to investigate a systematic review of the effect of excessive
alcohol consumption on University Student’s Performances. The review of the literature shows
an evidence of the alcohol consumption level of the university student and the same having
adverse affects on their performances. In the process the quality of the evidences and relevance is
in context of the UK population (UK university students).
1.2.Research Objective
ï‚· Produce a research paper that is a reliable evidence of the level of alcohol consumption
y the students of UK universities and their absence from lectures and seminars.
ï‚· Collection of data by the means of questionnaire being distributed to the university
students at random and getting the actual statistics of alcohol consumption and to the
extent it affecting the performance of the students

Review of Literature
It was found that college students show particularly heavy use and abuse of substances and
drinking among college students appears to be on the rise. When asked if heavy drinking led to
poor performance on a test or important project, or a missed a class, binge drinkers were
significantly more likely to report experiencing consequences in all of these areas than were non-
inge drinkers. Students who reported D and F grade point averages consumed an average of
eleven alcoholic drinks per week, while those who earned mostly A's consumed only three
drinks per week (Young, Sweeting & West, 2008).
High levels of alcohol consumption stereotypically characterize the college student lifestyle and
the negative health and developmental consequences (e.g., unintentional injuries, unsafe sex, and
criminal violations) remain of considerable concern to public health officials (Perkins, 2002). It
has been found by a number of researchers that “alcohol is implicated in as many as 41% of
academic problems and 28% of all dropouts. Indeed, there appears to be a dominant assumption
that academic problems and alcohol use are highly related (powell, Williams, & Wechsler, 2004;
au & durand, 2000). Within these surveys, it was found that one fifth of students reported
performing poorly and nearly 53% reported missing a class due to alcohol (presley et al., 1996).
Theory:
Grossman Model has been taken up to understand the costs that the alcohol consumers have to
pay, in context of university performance deteriorating. This model suggests that the people who
follow a healthy lifestyle from a young age are more successful in comparison to those who are
indifferent to their lifestyles. It is assumed here that non-consumption of alcohol leads to a
positive and healthy lifestyle and consumption of alcohol reduces the efficiency of students
leading to poor results. As per the study, the time that is being lost by the students in alcohol
consumption has an immediate and negative effect on the time allocation to the studies and
education. The immediate effects of alcohol consumption are clearly visible in the poor academic
esults, deteriorating health and social behavior (Young, Sweeting & West, 2008). Therefore, it
is clearly assumed that there is a high level of alcohol consumption amongst the young people in
England. While, there are other literatures that clearly indicates that parents play an important
ole in shaping up the minds of the young people in context of drinking habits. The parents give
the right of spending money to the children and accordingly the children get freedom of spending

the money anywhere they want thus parents play an important role in guiding the children and
young people.
Research Methodology
The chapter methodology will discuss in detail the research methods that are available for the
study and justification of its applicability to use in response for the statement of the research
objective made in chapter 1 which is directed towards a detailed analysis.
Therefore, this section of the research study specifically explains the methods of research being
used, research design, respondents of the study, data collection, and data analysis of the gathered
data (Operate & organization, 2002).
3.1.Research Design
For the study of the consumption of alcohol in the university students in UK, the approach that is
eing used is the descriptive research method. The reason behind using this method is that it
helps to make the research study cheap and quick. In the study are utilized in the descriptive
approach. To demonstrate the descriptive type of research is explained by the researcher by
throwing light on the actual meaning of the methodology, he stated that this approach is a
process of gathering information about present scenario of the students in university. The
descriptive method of research was used for this study. The purpose of descriptive research is to
authenticate devise proposition that refer to the cu
ent circumstances in order to explain it.
Moreover, this process permits an elastic methodology, thus, when significant new matter and
issues taking place during the duration of the study.
