The present paper is on the different types of accounts payable and accounts receivable system for the Medicare Organizations. The paper discusses the differences and importance of each of the system and compares each of the system with each other. It further discusses the potential implication of the case mix involving the four elements for a small organization into the medicare industry.
Introduction
The medicare system has a system of collection for their accounts receivable as well as the payment system for their accounts payable which is of four types mainly. The same is widely termed as Inpatient prospective payment system, outpatient prospective payment system, Medicare physician fee schedule as well as the Durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies. The four systems are the integral part of the medicare system but a combination of the same is important to the medicare management. The best possible mix helps in low cost and faster realization of payments
Differences between and Importance of IPPS, OPPS, MPFS and DMEPOS
IPPS stands for the inpatient prospective payment system, which is concerned with the payment systems of the sensitive care hospital inpatients for diagnosis-related groups, or DRGs as we know in short. The key importance of the IPPS is in the calculation of costs arising out of the usage of the technical devices in the hospital while an inpatient occupies the hospital bed. Each diagnosis-related group bears the payment weight put upon it which is conditioned on the average cost accrued during the cure of the particular inpatient in the relevant DRG. (CMS, Government 2012). In the other situation, Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) is concerned with the various outpatient groups as the APCs, or the ambulatory payment classifications.
The demanded resources and other relevant matters are more or less similar in the case of outpatient services in every APC. It is to be noted that the APC payment price per group is always regulated in terms of wages so that the differences in geographic locations, and the same is applicable to all the other services existing in the group.
