Reflective Journal(1500 words )

Students are required to reflect on three clinical issues they experienced in the past related to their specific area of practice. Students must follow Gibb’s cycle when they are writing their reflective journals.

In the journal, students will also identify their clinical objectives to achieve an understanding of an advanced level of nursing practice. Students will evaluate the achievement of the objectives and critically analyse and reflect on the experiences of their practice based on current literature.

Introduction
Self-reflection is one of the most effective tools, which nurses can use in order to improve their cu
ent performance and ensure quality care at the healthcare settings. According to Thudt, Hinrichs, Huron and Carpendale (2018), working at a clinic is not an easy task and there are numerous challenges, which nurses have to face. This reflective journal would tend to focus upon three such clinical issues from my personal experience in the past.
Further, efforts would be made to inculcate Gi
s’ model of self-reflection as a framework supporting this reflective journal. Likewise, nursing objectives would be identified and use of cu
ent literature would be done in order to present an evaluation, whether these objectives were achieved.
Clinical Experiences from Past
As presented above also, working at a clinic is not an easy job because nurses have to deal with numerous patients concerning their healthcare needs and compliance with the physicians’ orders. Therefore, there are numerous issues, which could arise because of lack of experience or lack of skills (Hayward, Bungay, Wolff & MacDonald, 2016). While working at the clinic one of the major issue faced by me was communication issues with the colleagues and clients.
Further, another major issue, which I would like to include in this reflective journal, concerns with some of the ethical issues or ethical dilemmas. Another inclusion in this reflective journal would be from my past when I used to function as a nurse in a multidisciplinary health care team.
Self-Reflection Concerning the Chosen Clinical Experiences
Self-reflection of the chosen experiences would be done using Gi
’s reflective model as a reflective framework (Li, Chen, Liu & Deng, 2020).
Clinical Experience 1- Communication Issues
1. Description –
While working at the clinic, I had to communicate with my fellow workers on a routine basis frequently. Communication becomes hard when the receiver is from different linguistic background and this was the case with me. Most of my colleagues were newly hired and from indigenous background; therefore, they lacked English fluency. They used to speak small phrases in English, which I could decipher but they could not understand the information I was passing to them, hence; it was time taking for me to make them understand.
2. Feelings –
Communicating with my fellow workers became difficult and it made me frustrated because I had to spend more time in order to make them understand. As a result, my work efficiency declined and I was not able to handle as many patients as I used to.
3. Evaluation –
It was time taking for me to make the new workers understand the functioning of clinic and the importance of quality care. Further, often times they were not able to understand requirements of patients; hence, I had to intervene in order to ensure patient care. This not only increased the workload on me but I was also not able to...
