Read the module Home page and required readings. Read through this assignment, including the instructions, and the Assignment Expectations.

Please write an essay in which you first clearly identify a single major achievement in Epidemiology (e.g., Smallpox, HIV/AIDS, Tobacco Use, Cholera). Then briefly describe one important tool that is used to measure its occurrence in a population. Briefly identify one source of public health data on that issue. Finally, incorporating the concepts of risk and rates, briefly discuss at least one major factor that influenced its occurrence.

Instructions

You can submit your paper in Question and Answer format. In other words, list the questions and provide a short answer to each.

  1. Which single achievement in Epidemiology is of particular interest to you? (Some examples include Smallpox, HIV/AIDS, Tobacco Use, and Cholera). Please write 2–3 sentences maximum.
  2. Briefly describe that achievement in Epidemiology (1–2 paragraphs). In what era did this achievement occur? Be sure to cite sources rather than simply stating your opinion.
  3. Briefly describe one important tool that can be used to measure its occurrence in a population. Examples of Tools include surveys, surveillance, and biological monitoring. Please write 2–3 paragraphs about this, and be sure to cite sources rather than simply stating your opinion.
  4. Please identify one specific source of public health data on that issue and write one paragraph about it. Provide a description of the source and a link (i.e., hyperlink or URL) directly to the data source.
  5. Incorporating what you learned in this module about risk and rates, what would you say was one major factor that influenced the achievement of this occurrence? Please write 2–3 paragraphs and be sure to cite sources rather than simply stating your opinion.

Recently the use of text analytics in the field of Epidemiology has taken the whole
system by storm. A medical epidemiology solution was implemented as a supporting tool for
medical practitioners would combine the records from multiple years of patient care history and
use predictive analytics to derive possible diagnostic indicators. One information term that
appears on a regular basis throughout the diagnosis notes in the dataset is the value "ME."
Clustering all cases that feature the "ME" term within the same category "Myalgic
Encephalomyelitis" might at first glance seem appropriate. However, upon further examination,
the a
eviation "ME" is used differently within different medical departments, and Myalgic
Encephalomyelitis is not even the most prevalent meaning. The most frequent meanings of the
term include Macular Edema (39%), Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (24%), Metabolic Energy
(10%), Metabolic & Electrolyte Disorder (5%) and Medical Examiner (5%). However, there are
many other valid usages, including Metamyelocyte, Muscle Examination, Medial Epicondyl and
Middle Ear (Biomedics, 2017).

All of the linguistic functions outlined above contribute considerably to the ability to
implement automated disambiguation of text. However, a further challenge that also needs to be
considered is the aspect of semantic reconciliation. This aims to ensure that there is consistent
interpretation and shared understanding of analytics outputs between disparate communities of
information consumers, and that the meaning of the presented information is agreed upon.
Regrettably, any given informational...
