Executive summary
This paper aims to analyze the case of The Caribou Memorial Hospital and Living
Center which has been transformed into a Critical Access Healthcare facility also known as
CAH under the program called as Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility (Flex) Program. This
initiative was taken up the hospital in order to respond to the need and lack of any good
emergency healthcare service provider in the community of Soda Springs, Idaho. The case
has elucidated the opinions and the findings of the healthcare professionals in the hospital,
other hospitals in the community as well as the average community members to find out how
eneficial or problematic this transition had been for them.
Caribou Memorial Hospital got converted to CAH status in the year 2000 and since then
has changed itself with respect to various parameters which helped it to imbibe the change in
status. The change to CAH status has resulted it to become a better healthcare provider along
with certain lingering issues that need to be taken care of in near future. This case analysis
aims to elucidate the internal as well as external environmental analysis of the hospital to
form an informed set of recommendations along with implementation strategies. The sources

domain websites and the journal articles of the pertaining topic.

Key Issues
Conversion of a normal healthcare facility to a CAH facility is done in order to make sure that
the community members can access the good quality healthcare right at time by saving the time
equired to travel to the nearest possible CAH center. In the present case, the community
members are satisfied and happy to have found themselves in a good healthcare locality because
of the presence of one CAH center.
