There were umpteen number of ethical principles, which were being challenged at the Memorial hospital and three prominent are being discussed here. First ethical principle challenged was ‘Triage’, which suggests inculcating rapid diagnosis and prognosis of every patient. In other words, severe or critical patients are treated than others. However, during the disaster, ethical dilemma emerged due to limited number of resources with respect to the large number of patients seeking medical attention. Therefore, patients who could be saved were treated first instead of investing resources upon those who could not be saved (Ryus and Baruch).
