There are several goals to be achieved in community correction. Some of them are, providing public safety and protection, reducing the number of prisoners in the prison, supervises the offenders in the prison to stop them from creating further nuisance in the community, generating a low cost and to reduce the tendency of the offenders to repeat their crime. As mentioned by Jones (2018), the policy makers look after the public safety, the police officers and the officials who are always in the open platform within the community tries to reduce the number of crimes, reducing the number of prisoners as well.
According to me, reducing recidivism is the most important goal in community correction. I believe so because reducing the tendency of the criminals to occur further crime in the community will reduce the rate of crime occurrence and create a healthy society. After release from the prison, it must be secured that the criminal does not creates more nuisance in the community. According to Gannon, Olver, Mallion and James (2019), psychological treatments through special psychological programmes in the correctional homes can help to reduce the recidivism rate in the criminals when they are exposed in the community again.
QUESTION #2: Topic 2: Purpose of the Goals
The purpose of the goals of corrections is to produce a crime free community with public safety and protection. The purpose is to maintain a healthy society with less number of criminals moving freely and reducing the re-occurrences of the crimes. This is done by certain programs in the correctional homes, which improves the mental health of the criminals and stops them from repeating further crimes.
