Analysis of a media article to build on knowledge and practice skills and theory applicable to working in the human services field.

Process:

One media article will be supplied for all students for assessment 1a – please note this article is the same for assessment 1b. For this assessment, students are to analyse the supplied media article in relation to a minority cultural group. Read and review the article to identify the facts and opinions included within it filling in the supplied scaffold.

Students will use the active reading scaffold supplied in the class space to guide their analysis

Using the supplied media article

1.Identify the facts (these will be backed up by evidence), and opinions (personal beliefs and ideas not backed up by evidence) included in the article.

2.Pay particular attention to the different facts and opinions relating to the First People of Australia.

3.Using academic references from the ACAP library or the subject readings to support your writing, analyse the articles main points, ideas and context. In this analysis, consider the background of the author and other people discussed within the article, as well as bias and subjective viewpoints.
