Instructions:
Tobacco, lack of physical activity, a diet high in fats and sugars, hypertension, diabetes and obesity
are well-known risk factors for heart disease. Populations with lower socioeconomic status are more
likely to have increased behavioural risk factors for heart disease, including smoking and lack of
physical activity (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, XXXXXXXXXXAlthough behavioural risk factors
might be evident causes of diseases, public health professionals also consider social and
environmental factors that contribute to the social gradient of health.

To prepare for this assignment, choose a population group in Australia (e.g. men/women, low
socioeconomic status, rural
emote, people with disabilities/mental illness). Then, in 1500 words,
address the following, being sure to include a rationale that justifies your response:

ï‚· Describe the pattern of heart disease within this population.
ï‚· Analyse how a social determinants of health approach could be used to explain the patterns
of mo
idity and mortality for heart disease among this population group when compared to
other groups.
ï‚· Create a public health intervention that addresses a social determinant of health (e.g. work,
unemployment, social support, transport, housing, education, access to healthcare).
ï‚· Describe how you would address the social gradient of health through this public health
intervention.
ï‚· Explain what other sectors would need to be involved aside from the health sector.

Introduction
A bigger cause of heart ailments and other problems is lack of physical activities and consumption of tobacco (Piepoli, 2016). As a socioeconomic aspect of status is a big determinant of good or poor health in Australia. A rich man or a man with a higher level of income tend to live a healthier life in Australia. The socioeconomic status of a person is called the social gradient of good or poor health position. Better health status is a shown symptom of a higher social and economic status of a person. A person who belongs to lower social and economic group tend to have a higher degree of risk from illness, severe heart ailments, and death. These people tend to live a short life in comparison from the people with higher economic status. For a given example, when a survey took place among the people of age group of 20 years, it was founded that people with lower socioeconomic conditions tended to live 2.6 years less than those with higher income levels.
Aboriginal Women Group in New South Wales
We would be evaluating the Aboriginal Women and the burden of the heart & the related circulatory conditions which would also account to be the major disease burden as reflected within the women group of below 40 years (Nichols, 2014). It has been observed that while the Australians Women have a tendency to be affected twice on account of the cardiovascular disease in comparison to the Non-Indigenous Women in Australia's (Ettehad, 2016). It has also been observed that the Aboriginal women are likely to die 10 times higher on account of the cardiovascular diseases. Even the Aboriginal Women are likely to die at a younger age as they have significant high factors which contribute to the risk factors such as heart problems, diabetes, and even rheumatic fever. It has been seen that while some of the risk factors can be changed by adopting a healthy lifestyle, cycling and various other changes, but some of the factors are still likely to be changed due to the genetic and the cultural factors of the weight gain tendency or eating a high-calorie rich food.
The measurement of socio-economic position for the Aboriginal Women can be done with two factors i.e. occupation, education, and income. These constraints can be clu
ed together for a complete measurement of the socioeconomic status of individual or family. The ISRD conducts a survey whose compilation is done by Australian Bureau of Statistics a uses the population of area base. The report of ISRD reflects the overall impact of economic status on the health of lower income groups.
The report also reflects disadvantages of low socioeconomic conditions faced by the particular group. As we tend to compare people with the highest socioeconomic group to the people with the lowest economic group on so many health measures such as chronic diseases,...
