Genetic testing techniques have been emerging with a great pace and they have proven beneficial for the patients. Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is an emerging and dominantly inherited genetic disorder, which have been reported to affect 1 in 250 individuals. It has been reported to occur due to increased levels of Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), which further gives rise to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Knowles, Rader and Khoury (2017) suggested that cascade genetic testing technique could be a potential solution for identifying individuals with FH risk.
This can further ensure the treatment of the individual at risk before the onset of ASCVD.
