Problem #1 (20 pts.): An object is launched from the ground with an initial velocity of 30 m/s as shown below. Determine: a) the flight time before the object strikes the wall, b) the height of the object as it strikes the wall, and c) if the object is on the upward or downward portion of the flight (hint: check the y-velocity direction) as it strikes the wall. You can neglect air resistance.

Answer
(a) Distance of the wall = 18m
Horizontal component of the wall = 30cos55
0
= 17.2m/s
So, flight time of the ball is given by,
Flight time = Distance of the wall / Horizontal component of velocity
= 18/17.2
= 1.04 s (Answer)
(a) Now height at which ball will strike can be calculated from the vertical velocity of the
all so,
So, from Second equation of motion we have,
h = ut - ½ gt
2

h = 30sin55
0
– ½ *9.8*1.04
2

h = 24.57 – 5.299
h = 19.27m (Answer)
(b) Range of the Projectile is given by,
= 30
2
sin2*55
0
/ 9.8 on
= 86.29 m
Which means projectile will cover 86.29m on ground if there is no wall, but the wall is at a
distance of 18m which less than half the distance covered by the ball on the ground which means
all is in its upward motion.
Answer
Tension in the cable = 40N
Since both block A and B are connected with the same thread so, Acceleration of Block A is
equal to acceleration of block B. Let the acceleration is a for both blocks hence,
Action force of block A = mg =1 5*9.8 = 147N
So from Newton’s third law of motion...
