1. Introduction and purpose of presented report
The identification of possible ethical issues related to provide case studies is main purpose of presented report. The first case of ICT technician Jeo is being selected to find the ethical issues and their implications. Monitoring the emails of employees for pay negotiation is highly unethical. The email facility is provided by the organization for business purpose, so, they can monitor the email transactions but it will not be ethical. As Jeo is just an ICT technician, so, he has to follow the management decision.
In the second perspective, the email service provided by organization is for organizational benefits not for personal communication. Most of the organizations take sign agreements from their employees to monitor the email activities and if any activity or content on email is found against the decided policies by organization, the organization can even terminate that employee [Aldridge & Decary-Hetu, 2015]. As any law is also not present which can decide that the management decision to monitor the emails of Union members making decision to increase pay is legal or not. So, organization can take advantage from it and easily monitor the emails. But in my opinion, the ethical implications of this action of email monitoring will be wrong.
Organizations of modern time spend millions of dollars on information systems to assure the information security and monitoring the employee’s activities for gaining maximum profit. The privacy rights of employees at work place have different ethical issues because of deployed monitoring systems and implemented security levels. The organizations gives the reason of leaks to provided sensitive information to any competitor which can harm their business. The legal liability limits, easy lost recovery and stopping the violation activities against the organizational policies are other reasons provided by organizations in their support to monitor employees activities and emails.
