The workplace culture should be such that it can lead to common good that is benefits for everyone. However, discriminatory practices at workplace affect the workplace culture negatively. According to Harnois and Bastos (2018), the management or individual employees can perform discriminatory practices. Discriminatory practices include different treatment for the same thing. Such practices have a negative impact on the mental stability of the affected person. It leads to depression, stress and hypertension. This affects the productivity of the employee that ultimately affects the organisational productivity. Management try to develop the concept of shared vision within the organisational culture. In such a scenario, the opinion of each stakeholder is given due importance and then the vision is framed. However, discriminatory practices at workplace affect the objective of shared vision of the organisation. When individuals are treated differently for the same action or job, it affects the morale of the employee negatively.
Activities like favouring someone in promotional and similar activities create a negative environment at the workplace. This negatively affects the workplace culture.
Talented professionals prefer organisation with strong workplace culture. Therefore, if an organisation does not have a healthy workplace culture then it will not be able to attract and retain talented employees. These activities affect the common goods approach that affects the morale of the employees. According to the views of Verniers and Vala (2018), workplace discrimination affects the victim of such isolation that he feels excluded from groups. He tries to stay alone that leads to depression and other mental health issues. Act of discrimination out of fun, mockery also has an effect on the behaviour of the affected individual. Individual also develop suicidal tendency that can be harmful for the health of the individual. Around 73% of the people agree that individuals who undergo depression tend to go through depression, anxiety and similar issues.
