Reflection Paper # 2 – Wit
Purpose:
· To provide insights on humanism, empathy and compassion
· To enhance ideas of the patient experience and key concepts of the nurse-patient relationship
· To promote awareness of the importance of patient advocacy, including a commitment to the health of vulnerable populations and the elimination of health disparities.
Learning objectives:
· Define and describe the concept of humanism
· Reflect on the definition and concept of humanism within the context of nursing
· Identify aspects of humanism (or lack therof) in a fictional scenario (film)
Instructions:
· Watch and reflect on the movie “Wit”. A link to the movie can be found on the Blackboard site.
· Write a one page paper reflecting on your thoughts about the video and answering ALL of the points listed below in the Grading Ru

· Submit this assignment via Safe Assign in the SafeAssign section of Blackboard. All reflection papers MUST be submitted as attachments (do not copy and paste into SafeAssign)
Format
· Reflection papers should be written in essay format, not question and answer style.

· All papers are to be typed, 12 point Times New Roman format, double spaced, and in APA format (you do not have to include a cover page or “running head”)
· Length: 1 page.
· Headings for papers must include the following information

1. What were your general thoughts and feelings about the film. You may want to include any personal connections you may have made to the film. (10 points- 1st paragraph)
2. Clearly and fully define and describe humanism; must include citations from assigned readings. Please incorporate ideas from class activity and include the importance of humanism in nursing. (20 points at least one paragraph)
3. Provide specific examples and evidence of humanism AND a lack of humanism displayed in the film and fully explain how these examples portray humanism or a lack thereof. Explain how you believe BOTH humanism and a lack thereof can or did impact the patient (40 points at least 2 paragraphs)
