Answer 3. The breakdown of alcohol, or its metabolism consists of 2 primary enzymes, alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH). The main aim of the body is to reduce the alcohol into simple substances for easy removal from the system. Firstly, the ADH helps in metabolizing the alcohol to acetaldehyde, which is highly toxic. In the next stage the acetaldehyde is broken down into acetate, which is less toxic, which undergoes further reduction to carbon dioxide and water, released from the system. Answer 4. Alcohol effects two of the most important organs of the body, the brain and the liver. The liver is responsible for filtering all our blood, removing toxins and storing blood sugar. Excess alcohol constitutes excess toxins, with chronic drinking causing the liver to get fatty. This, over time leads to further complications like alcoholic hepatitis and its related complications.
