The aim of this assessment is to assess your knowledge and performance in promoting Aboriginal and To
es Strait Islander cultural safety.

Instructions for this assessment
This is a project-based assessment that assesses your your knowledge and performance of the unit.
This assessment is in 1 part:
· Cultural Safety Framework
And is supported by:
· Assessment Checklist
· Assessment feedback
Submission instructions
On completion of this assessment, you are required to submit it to your Teache
Assessor for marking. Where possible, submission and upload of all required assessment files should be via the TAFE NSW online learning platform.
Ensure you have included your name at the bottom of each page of the documents you submit.
It is important that you keep a copy of all electronic and hardcopy assessments submitted to TAFE and complete the assessment declaration when submitting the assessment.
What do I need to do to achieve a satisfactory result?
To achieve a satisfactory result for this assessment you must answer all the questions co
ectly.
If a resit is required to achieve a satisfactory result it will be conducted at an agreed time after a suitable revision period.
What do I need to provide?
· TAFE NSW student account username and password. If you do not know your username and password, contact your campus or service centre on 131601.
· Computer or other device with word processing software and internet access

This is an unsupervised, take-home assessment. Your Teache

Assessment feedback, review or appeals
In accordance with the TAFE NSW policy Manage Assessment Appeals, all students have the right to appeal an assessment decision in relation to how the assessment was conducted and the outcome of the assessment. Appeals must be lodged within 14 working days of the formal notification of the result of the assessment.
If you would like to request a review of your results or if you have any concerns about your results, contact your Teache
Assessor or Head Teacher. If they are unavailable, contact the Student Administration Officer.

Specific task instructions
The instructions and the criteria in the tasks and activities will be used by your Teache
Assessor to determine if you have satisfactorily completed this assessment event. Use these instructions as a guide to ensure you demonstrate the required knowledge and skills.
Part 1 Cultural safety framework
Introduction: you are required to research information and, using the template provided, develop a draft Aboriginal and/or To
es Strait Islander cultural safety framework.
As this is a draft framework, you are NOT being asked to develop OR implement a full plan or policy.
When developing the draft framework, you must demonstrate the following.
· Research and use information from reliable sources that authentically reflect Aboriginal and/or To
es Strait Islander information, such as the Australian Bureau of Statistics, State Government websites etc.
· Ensure the framework demonstrates respect for the cultural differences of Aboriginal and/or To
es Strait Islander people.
The framework must include:
1. Introduction/Purpose
a) Explain why your service requires a cultural safety framework;
) Provide an overview of the cultural demographic in your service; and
c) Explain the framework outcomes, indicating how it will support employees and customers/clients (NOTE: you will need these outcomes to complete your evaluation)
2. Scope
· Read the transcripts about Evaluating Aboriginal and To
es Strait Islander cultural safety and Cultural Safety Frameworks – key factors and summarise the key aspects that will need to be covered in your framework
3. Programs and services strategies
a) Outline and describe work practices and communication techniques that would demonstrate respect for Aboriginal and/or To
es Strait Islander people.
) Identify situations that would require interpreters, colleagues, or support workers to act as cultural
okers.
c) Identify two strategies that support the development of effective partnerships between staff and Aboriginal and/or To
es Strait Islander people and communities.
d) Identify three resources to promote partnership with Aboriginal and/or To
es Strait Islander people (For example, Reconciliation Australia’s website).
e) Explain how your strategies will promote and enables self-determination and community control in programs and services.
4. Evaluation
Using the SMART model: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound
a) Identify how the framework strategies will be measured against the desired outcomes explained in the framework purpose.

c) After you submit this assessment, your assessor will provide you with feedback on your outcomes when they mark your assessment, any revisions will need to be incorporated into your presentation in Assessment three. This feedback will be provided in the template below.
