Abstract
The preventative health care industry is a growing and expanding industry as the government initiatives mainly focused on preventive healthcare services through cu
ent health care law. To a certain extent, the implementation of the Affordable Care Act encouraged and supported all healthcare providers and non-profit organizations to provide health preventative and screening services to their clients. American Heart Association introduced the Healthy Hearts for Everyone program for improving the health of the people. It is the duty of healthcare providers to implement effective practices and policies for improving the health condition of the people. In this research paper, we are analysing the health promotion activities and programs related to rheumatic heart disease and we are also considering the fiver major strategies identified in the Ottawa charter for health promotion.
It is the duty of the nurse and other healthcare providers to understand the needs of heart patients and provide effective treatment and healthcare services. Before analysing the major strategies identified in the Ottawa charter for health promotion, we can focus on various aspects related to rheumatic heart disease
Rheumatic heart disease
Rheumatic heart disease simply called as the rare disease that directly affects the heart valves. The heart valves of the patient will be damaged due to rheumatic fever. Untreated strep throat or scarlet fever is the major reason for rheumatic heart diseases. Rheumatic heart disease mainly affects the children under the age of 5 to 15 (Beaton et al 2017, p.713). The most common symptoms of Rheumatic heart disease mainly include; fever, shortness of
eath, uncontrolled movements of legs and arms etc. From the beginning stage of the diseases we have to provide proper treatment otherwise it directly affects the health may lead to death. The health care professional is using different methods for diagnosing Rheumatic heart disease. Some of the healthcare professionals are using Echocardiogram, it helps for understanding the health condition of the heart valves and chambers. Healthcare professionals are also using chest x-rays for checking lungs and heart condition. For curing the diseases, healthcare professionals have to replace damaged valves or surgery also can be called as an effective way of managing the issue. For reducing the effect of strep infections the healthcare professionals also use antibiotics. If the patient is failed to take up medicines and failed to go for on-going check-ups or treatment, it directly influences the health condition of the patient (Engel et al 2016, p.1456)
