Rationale for assessment task
Assessment 1 Item assists you to develop the knowledge and skills to evaluate the patient experience using The ICN Code of Ethics for Nurses (International Council of Nurses [ICN], 2012), the Code of Conduct for Nurses in Australia (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia [NMBA], 2018), and the Registered Nurse Standards for Practice (NMBA, 2016), as well as the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care [ACSQHC], 2017) as key measures, along with other relevant literature. Thus this assignment allows you to implement this knowledge and skill to prepare you for your professional role as a Registered Nurse (RN), evaluating patient/family care experiences and partnering with patients/families. The aim of evaluating care is to provide recommendations for reform that will improve the quality of care and the patient/family experience. Additionally, this assessment will assist you to develop the Graduate Attributes 1, 2, 3, 4 & 6.

Background Information
Patients and families are often on the receiving end of care and are thus positioned well to reflect, comment and share their care experience to key stakeholders whose goals are to improve patient safety, quality of care and the patient/family experience. Improving the patient care experience can be challenging and nurses need to be equipped with knowledge about relevant evidenced based theory to help them inform their care practice. For example the nursing governances and nursing philosophies that guide the application of nursing care practice, and other related theory/ contemporary evidenced based literature and strategies that will help engage nurses with patients and their families to improve their future care experiences.
Instructions:
Choose ONE of the following Age 40 Patient Experience and Partnering in Care Interviews:
1. ‘Non-Indigenous Australian Caucasian Male Experience’

2. ‘Indigenous Australian Female Aboriginal Experience
The Age 40 Patient Experience and Partnering in Care Interview Recordings are located on the left side of the NUR1201 Study Desk page, under the label ‘Panopto’.
1. Write a 1500 word essay on ONE of the above ‘Age 40 Patient experience and partnering in care’ interviews and analyse the care experience, with the intention to improve the future care experiences of Age 40 patients and their families.
To support your essay argument, include relevant literature (theory) (refer to point number 2.) you will draw upon to analyse and discuss the Age 40 Patient experience, as well as to recommend and justify future partnering in care strategies to improve the Age 40 patient experience.
