Description

Teams of 3-4 persons are required to write a report of 2000 words. The report must be a
critical analysis of the content covered and understood during the workshops from sessions
1 to 6.
Content:
This assessment is to demonstrate that you have learned information systems concepts,
including the definitions, types, strategies and business models. You are to report a critical
analysis from session 1 till session 6.

It should be written as a journal and should include the following:

Introduction
Information systems in an integral field of study, which is required to be studied by future professionals for the purpose of effective design, use of information and communications and delivery of desired results. Students who have interest in the subject can it up as a full time career and those who do not can process information through different means for the purpose of decision-making. The sessions helped students in creating a foundation so that critical thinking about the information systems can be improved and impacts on human due to technological changes can be assessed closely.
Main Topics Covered
In Session 1:
The introduction of information system started with humanities and social sciences introduction, which was expanded in interdisciplinary problem-solving method. Next it was followed by understanding about information systems and technological know how and developing these skills is important to develop effective real world solutions. It was also extended to how societal functions impacts technology and the concentration of the topic on flexibility and agency to gain expertise in a supporting area and define own niche in IS.
In Session 2:
It covered the features of business, which are important to understand the significance of information systems in business and its role. Another area was different information systems cater to different needs of management and the way they attached to business activities helps in achieving organizational performance. The collaboration between businesses and systems at social level is important and for the purpose the technologies used by them. At least the session as summed up by the role of information systems in business.
In Session 3:
The business models like Porter’s competitive forces model, the value chain model, synergies, core competencies, and network-based strategies are quite common in businesses these days but there understanding and implementation needs due focus. The session covered the competitive usage of information systems to enhance the value derived from models. The way information systems help in competing globally and taking decisions on design and quality is also covered. The session was ended with the explanation of BPM (business process management)’s contributing on competitiveness.
In Session 4:
With the rise in information the issues of ethics, politics and social considerations are on rise and organizations are continuously working on that. This session was about discussing such issues and the code of conduct, which can help future professional to take ethical decisions and remain concerned with the goals of the company. Information systems and internet has posed a challenge to privacy of individuals and intellectual property which a serious matter of concern. This session shed some light on those aspects as well.
In Session 5:
After understanding information systems session 5 was about hardware and software because to use information systems it is required to create IT infrastructure on which information systems will run. It was about components of IT infrastructure, hardware, data storage, input, and output technologies used in business and the trends which are observed in present times. Software, understanding its requirements and the latest trends in it were also discussed. issues which are prominent in the management of hardware and software technology was also explained.
