Essay
According to Schubert and Klein ideology is defined as the sum of beliefs and ideas that serve as the basis for certain actions and interventions of a group of people (Schubert & Klein, XXXXXXXXXXSchubert and Klein state that the political ideology is the basis and the justification for political action. So, Schubert and Klein further note that an ideology is a combination of “Weltanschauung” of a society consisting of its values and its way of thinking and of its ideas and intentions. Political ideologies therefore present a political direction and guide the people regarding the determination of political actions. According to Jost et al (Jost, 2009) ideologies can be distinguished and classified into ‘right’ and ‘left’. Jost further explains that today instead of ‘left’ the term ‘liberal’ and for ‘right’ the term ‘conservative’ is used. As such the term either advocates or resists social change and rejects or accepts inequality as Jost et al point out. Socialism and Communism according to Jost et al. are considered as left whereas nationalism, fascism and capitalism are considered to be right.
The German constitution states that Germany is a social and a democratic state according to Thurich and is therefore called Federal Republik (Thurich, XXXXXXXXXXGermany thus commits itself to social equity and social security as is noted by Thurich. It is governed by the Christian Democratic Union and headed by the chancellor Angela Merkel. The party according to Andersen and Woyke considers itself as party for everyone – across classes – no matter which confession the people belong to (Andersen & Woyke, XXXXXXXXXXAs such it is one of the big parties in Germany. It is rather a conservative party. It aims at combing traditions, moral concepts and conservative thinking with the challenges of the future. It thus can be positioned rather to the right wing. However, the past years have shown that the direction of the party is not fixed and sometimes-even needs to be adjusted due to political and economic circumstances as noted by AFP. Merkel is being criticized for transforming the political direction of the CDU and for accepting the values and ideas of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) (Poschardt, XXXXXXXXXXEven so, however, Merkel has not been very successful in establishing social reforms: the promised reforms regarding retirement pensions are still being awaited. According to DPA even so all parties agree that low-income earners should not be the future poor retirees these reforms even so necessary to prevent the loss of the social status (DAP, 2013) have not come yet and will be subject in the next election campaign. Furthermore, finding a solution for the setting of minimal wages has proven to be rather difficult as the union itself can’t find an agreement (Quadbeck, XXXXXXXXXXWith the election coming up in Germany in fall 2013 the aims of the parties are published. The Social Democratic Party e.g. aims at supporting families financially and facilitating access to education (Klasen, 2013).
Summary
Being as social state Germany aims at social security and social equity. As such it supports families, people with lower income, sick people and unemployed people. The ideology that Germany follows is mirrored by the party governing Germany and it is further seen to even bigger extend by the other big party who aims at fixing minimal wages and the support of families.

Ideologies have great impact on welfare state development; year 1980 has seen huge reform
in social policies in European states. The concept of neo liberalism helped in restructure the
system by stressing on the importance of family and individual welfare (Bam
a, et al.,
2007). With the oil crisis in 1980, there was an attack on the welfare system of Germany by
the neo liberal thinkers. The administration system of Germany was much more complex than
Britain. For example, the problem of erosion of unemployment benefit was developed by
Britain government more easily by saving fiscal benefit than Germany government because
of unemployment benefits in Germany are legally insulated on pressure on social security on
other agencies (Bam
a, et al., 2007).
The funding of this welfare and social system in Germany through social insurance has
ecome the biggest challenge for the government. There is need for lowering...
